Bumper entries for Tivyside Races
Good ground awaits the 123 entries for Sunday’s Tivyside Point to Point races and if the weather forecast proves right, all is set for a superb days racing.
Being held in its ninth year at the Boncath course of Cilwendeg, an 11am start gives race goers the added treat of two pony races being held before the 12 o’clock main meeting, which in itself is an eight race card.
Anna’s in with a shout
The feature race of the day is the AGA sponsored Ladies Open Race, and being a national championship qualifier ensures a quality field with the winner securing a place in the Ladies’ Cheltenham Hunter chase final on Wednesday 4th May. Local novice lady jockey Anna Metekohy will have learnt a lot from her first ride aboard Kisha King, when finishing second in the ‘Ladies’ at the Vale of Clettwr meeting and the partnership may well build on that to take this for West Wales.
John has to make a key choice
The ‘Intermediate’ also has a Cheltenham ticket for the winner, this time for the Connolly’s Red Mills Hunter Chase final, and jockey John Mathias holds all the aces, with the enviable decision as to whether he rides Weekender top-rated Pathian Prince or his father’s Lydstep Hills, the gelding making his much awaited seasonal debut. A young horse, he already has many admirers.
Two divisions for ‘Confined maiden
The ‘Confined Maiden’ is split into two divisions with Cilrhiwron surely the winner of the first division after being runner up on both previous starts. The second division I’ll leave to the bookmakers to decide who to make favourite as there are several in with a shout.
Children under 16 are admitted for free to the meeting when accompanied by an adult, with caterers and refreshments available on course along with bookmakers, those making their first trip to the course can find it along the B4332 with SA37 0EW needed in the Sat Nav.
Entrance fees are the same for all West Wales meetings: £10 Car & Driver, £5 per adult.
