'Mr Derek' let his heart rule his heart and got battered by The Expert

 

The Expert showed no mercy this week as he crushed 'Mr Derek' 5-2 and has now taken an impressive 11-8 overall advantage going into the final week of predictions. "I knew he would let his heart rule his head," said the Expert, "With one eye on this week's Senior Cup semi final with Goodwick United - 'Mr Derek' could not go against his team where he predicted they would beat derby rivals Merlins Bridge - big mistake - and then tipping Pennar Robins to reach the West Wales Intermediate Cup Quarter Final - another big mistake!" The Haverfordwest County manager will definitely need a miracle to topple the Expert now as he taunted ‘Mr Derek’ by saying, "I think it's all over, well it will be next week!"

The Expert catches up with 'Mr Derek'

 

The Expert edged home by a single point in the second week of his tipping battle with Haverfordwest County’s likeable Pembrokeshire League manager Derek ‘Mr Derek’ Roberts to make them level at the half-way stage of their duel.

Both claimed that they would have added further points from the games that were cancelled and Derek announced that he was making his own choices this week, rather than consulting his Boss, Mr Rob Summons, and other sundry so-called pundits.

(Editor: I can vouch for that fact because Derek was marking the pitch for a youth game at the Bridge Meadow Stadium, puffing away like a good ‘un, when I read out the fixtures and he gave me his immediate response to each match, other than the Hakin v Johnston match, where he actually thought of going for a draw before he decided to change his mind!)

The Expert was typically unimpressed as he told us, “Don’t get me wrong, I really like the chap, known him for years, but he reminds me of that ‘Mr Derek’ who used to be the stooge for Basil Brush on television. He makes me laugh but there will be no mercy this week because there will only be one week after this and I daren’t let him beat me. Even the people at the Bluebirds have asked me not to let that happen because Mr Derek will never let them forget the fact!

            “My mole at the Bridge Meadow Stadium, who is in the office, tells me that Mr Derek has been consulting the weather forecasts and the local press since his rash decision to forecast the results off the top of his head – but he might just as well have let his charming wife Byddug pick the winners, for all the good it will do him!”

Division One:

 

Goodwick United 4 Clarbeston Road 1

Goodwick are firm favourites to win this match but I think Clarbeston Road will be good value for a goal.

 

Hakin United 3 - Johnston 1

Johnston go to The Obs looking for the double, having already won at home, but I think the Vikings will be too strong at home.

 

Haverfordwest County 3 - Merlins Bridge 2

This is bound to be a close game but I think that with home advantage we will just about have enough fire-power to win here.

 

Kilgetty 1 - Herbrandston 3

Kilgetty are still looking for a first win and could snatch the verdict here – but I have to go with form and tip Herbie to win by a couple of goals.

 

Narberth 2 - Tenby 1

Tenby start as favourites but I think Narberth are due a big performance and so I go for them to edge home by the odd goal.

 

Solva 2 - Hundleton 2

I just couldn’t pick between these two teams playing at Maes y Mor so for one I have sat on the fence and gone for a draw! 

 

West Wales Cup – Fifth Round

 

Pennar Robins 2 - Brunswick United 1

My head says that Brunswick United but I’ve gone for what my heart says and hope that Pennar can keep the Pembrokeshire Flag flying in the West Wales Cup.
