Fixtures for 5th March 2011

Division One (West):

Llangennech v Whitland
Whitland make the journey to Llangennech with a real chance of securing a seventh victory of the season against a side which tries to play attractive rugby but is currently languishing in tenth place in the section, with only five wins from 13 starts. Verdict: I think the Borderers will win this one because they have trained well and are very eager for action after having their game postponed again last Friday.

Narberth v Carmarthen Athletic
Matches between these two clubs are traditionally hard-fought and the previous one was no exception as the Athletic edged home by 7-6! But the Otters should be boosted by their 13-try success against lowly Felinfoel and looking to gain revenge here. Verdict: It all depends on whether the Otter pack can gain parity – and if they do they will win well.

Division Three (West):

Crymych v Llanelli Wanderers
Crymych aim to continue their superb unbeaten run as they play host to a Llanelli Wanderers’ side struggling in bottom place, with only two wins in 13 matches. The Preseli Men have now won 12 league matches and will be aiming to repeat their 33-10 success in Llanelli earlier in the season. Verdict: Crymych will win this – with something in hand!

Penclawdd v Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest travel to Penclawdd looking to complete a double since they beat The Cocklemen by 19-14 at Merlins Bridge. Verdict: The Blues have strengthened their side since then so they might just do it – but it is always tough in Penclawdd and if pushed I would have to go for a narrow home win!

Division Four (West):

Betws v Cardigan
Cardigan beat Betws by 37-20 earlier in the campaign and are currently third in the table, just one place ahead of their opponents, who have lost five times in 13 starts whilst the Teifisiders have lost just three out of 12 games so far. Verdict: Cardigan beat high fliers Amman United in their last tussle so can surely win this one!

Milford Haven v Trimsaran
Milford Haven still need to pick up a few wins to make sure that they climb well clear of the danger zone and this is a match they  will have targeted after losing 38-22 in Trimsaran. Verdict: The opposition are three places above the Mariners by dint of the fact that they have picked up far more bonus points but Mackie’s Boys should win with home advantage.

Pembroke Dock Quins v Cefneithin
The Quins are currently bottom of the section but should be quietly confident about this fixture because they picked up a deserved win in Cefneithin by a 38-17 margin. Verdict: The Quins to complete the double, as long as they are at something like full strength.

Tenby United v Neyland
Tenby have their sights firmly set on the silverware and will enter this local derby in the knowledge that they have already beaten Neyland by 29-8 at The Observatory Field. Verdict: Tenby should take another step along the road to the title, although the All Blacks are no pushovers!

Division Five (West):

Fishguard v Swansea Uplands
This match should provide me with one of the banker bets of the day since Fishguard are in top spot, with ten wins and a draw from their 11 matches, whilst Swansea Uplands are in the bottom two with nine defeats from 12 games. Verdict: The Seagulls won 28-6 in the Uplands and they should complete the double, with a bonus point as well!

Llandybie v Llangwm
Llandybie are just one place below Llangwm in the table but have already beaten The Wasps 13-7 at Pill Parks so there could be a tight tussle in prospect. Verdict: I have to go for Llandybie but sincerely hope that Llangwm prove me wrong!

St Davids v Pembroke
St Davids will be eager for revenge after losing by 34-17 against Pembroke at Crickmarren, but The Scarlets are eager to maintain their place at the top of the section so will be ‘up for it’ too. Verdict: It has to be a win for the Scarlet Runners for me!
