Fixtures for 5th February 2011

Division One (West):

Bridgend Athletic v Narberth
Can the Otters get back to winning ways after such a stop/start few weeks? They sit in fifth place in the table and travel to play a Bridgend Athletic side below them in eighth spot. Verdict: The Otters must target this as an away win after winning at home by 42-22.

Division Three (West):

Haverfordwest v Tumble
Haverfordwest have home advantage over Tumble, who are currently tenth in the table with three wins and a draw from ten games played, whilst the Blues are now seventh, with four victories and a draw in their 11 games. Verdict: This pair shared 62 points at Tumble but I think the Blues should win with a little in hand, if they are at full strength!

Laugharne v Crymych
Laugharne has struggled as a team this season, with only two wins alongside nine defeats whilst Crymych remain proud of their 100% record after 11 matches. Verdict: Crymych won 24-19 at Parc Lloyd Thomas and they will surely win in Dylan Thomas country!

Division Four (West):

Milford Haven v Cardigan
Matches between these two sides are often high scoring and Cardigan won at home by 39-20 so they will be eager to complete a double – but the Mariners are strong at home and are in useful form. Verdict: It could be close but I think the Mariners will sail home at The Observatory Field!

Pembroke Dock Quins v Neyland
A real local derby where there will be no quarter asked for or given. They met at the Athletic Ground and the All Blacks eased home by 23-20 in a cracking match where either side could have won. Verdict: The Quins need a win to move out of the bottom two in the section but I think that the All Blacks will have a slight edge if they are at full strength.

Tenby United v Betws
Tenby United will have been boosted by their Swalec success last weekend and will be in confident against third-placed Betws, who have won six of their ten fixtures so far. Verdict: The Seasiders won 40-15 in Betws and should complete the double whilst pocketing a bonus point.

Division Five (West):

Fishguard v St Clears
Fishguard are intent on promotion this campaign and will be eager to get back in action against sixth-placed St Clears, whom they beat 40-15 in Betws. Verdict: The Seasiders have eight wins and a draw so far and I expect them to increase their win tally in this tussle!

Pembroke v Furnace
This is the section’s match of the day as Pembroke sit in top spot, with nine victories from 11 starts, and Furnace are second, with eight wins and one loss. Verdict: The Scarlets won 25-20 in Furnace and I really hope that Ossie Boswell’s Boys can repeat that success at Crickmarren to maintain their creditable promotion hopes.

Penygroes v Llangwm
When the teams met at Pill Parks it was Llangwm who edged home by 9-5 and Penygroes now sit in ninth place, with three wins out of eight matches, just below the Wasps, who have four successes from ten starts. Verdict: Llangwm will need to be at full strength if they are to grab the double, but I hope they travel well, otherwise they will struggle.

St Davids v Pontyates
I am confident that St Davids can bounce back to winning ways as they entertain a Pontyates side that have a 100% loss record from their nine matches. Verdict: The Saints won 29-19 in Pontyates and I fully expect them to claim their fifth win of the campaign, hopefully with a bonus point as well!
