Fixtures for 29th January 2011
Division One (West):
Narberth v Llangennech
Narberth will be eager to put behind them three miserable weeks where they lost twice in the last minutes and had their local derby against Whitland called off at the last minute. The Otters won 40-22 at Llangennech so they start as hot favourites to win at home. Verdict: The Otters to complete a deserved double!Division Three (West):
Haverfordwest v Llandeilo
This should be a hard-fought tussle since Haverfordwest are 7th and Llandeilo 5th, with the visitors to Merlins Bridge already victors by 14-7 at home. Verdict: The Blues backs to cut loose and gain revenge in this one!Division Four (West):
Cardigan v Neyland
Cardigan start as hot favourites since they have a far better playing record than Neyland, plus home advantage at the King George Vth Ground. Verdict: It should be close but Neyland have won their last two games and might just make it three on the trot!Milford Haven v Pembroke Dock Quins
A local derby where there is traditionally huge rivalry and this game will be no exception. The mariners beat the Quins at Bierspool by 30-13 on the opening day of the season so the Quins will be eager to get their own back. Verdict: It won’t be all plain sailing for the Mariners because the Quins are a battling bunch – but playing at the Observatory might just ensure a local derby double!Division Five:
Fishguard v Bynea
This is my banker bet for the day as unbeaten Fishguard entertain a Bynea side which has only won twice in ten starts. Verdict: The Seagulls to soar and pick up a bonus point into the bargain!Pembroke v Llandybie
Pembroke sit proudly atop the table but they know that anything other than a win over fifth-placed Llandybie would see them knocked off their perch. Verdict: Ossie Boswell’s boys to win and stay at the head of the section table.Pontyates v Llangwm
Another match which a Pembrokeshire club should win because Pontyates have lost all nine of their matches whilst Llangwm have won four from ten starts in league fixtures. Verdict: A win for the Wasps, as long as they have something like a full team available.Swalec Bowl Round Four:
Aberaeron v Tenby United
Tenby United are Pembrokeshire’s sole representatives in any of the Swalec competitions and they journey to Aberaeron looking to maintain that status. At the moment, the Seasiders are top of Division Four (West) whilst Aberaeron are seventh so the form book suggests a Tenby win. Verdict: I think the Seasiders will win comfortable, but not by the 59-7 margin they achieved at Heywood Lane!
