Tough battles for Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Footballers
Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football Squad continued their Welsh Schools’ campaign in the Tom Yeoman’s Shield, ending up sharing the points against Afan Nedd Schools on Sunday at Port Talbot.
Pembrokeshire A 2 - Afan Nedd A 4
Pembrokeshire were slow and sluggish after a long layoff and soon found themselves 3-0 in arrears. This shock woke the boys up and at last they started to compete for the ball. Regan Pallas pulled one goal back after some good work by Max Brindley and Cameron Thomas.
Harry Cook and Ethan Price defended well and Pembs got a second goal through Brindley. Ollie Wheeler and Ben Fawcett came on in the second half and Pembs created more chances. However, just when it looked like Pembs would get back in the game a counter attack saw Afan Nedd put the game beyond doubt. This was Pembs’ first defeat in their 2011 campaign.
Pembrokeshire A 1 - Afan Nedd B 1
Pembs seemed to be more settled and started to play some better football. Rowan Nicholson ran well on the right and Henry McBeth played some good balls in to the front players. Nic Jones played well in goal and a corner from Thomas saw Pallas head home a superb goal – but just when Pembs thought they had sealed the game Afan Nedd scored a later equaliser.
Pembrokeshire B 2 - Afan Nedd B 1
The Pembs side started off well and battled for every ball. Morgan Picton made brave saves in the Pembs goal whilst Elliott Wherrett and Garin Gardner defended solidly. Dan Llewellyn and Jack Wilson combined well before Travis O’Connor put Pembs ahead with two cracking goals. In the second half a shot by Afan Nedd hit a Pembs player and was deflected into the goal making the score 2-1 but Pembs held on to their lead and picked up three valuable points.
Pembrokeshire B 1 - Afan Nedd 1
This was a hard-fought affair with both sides desperate to score but brave defending and last-ditch tackling kept both sides in the game. Dan Hopkins and Tobias Nash ran well and Jake Houston and Curtis Hicks showed presence in midfield.
Gardner scored a great goal for Pembs early in the first half before Afan Nedd equalised in the second half and Pembs defended desperately until the final whistle.
