Fixtures for 15th January 2011
Division One (West):
Maesteg v Narberth
This is a match that Narberth MUST win to move back up the table because Maesteg are currently tenth with only two wins from 12 starts. Verdict: The Otters won by 44-16 at home and must ensure they complete the double over the ‘Old Parish’!Whitland v Waunarlwydd
Whitland will be eager to complete the double over Waunarlwydd since they beat the team known amongst Pembrokeshire rugby followers as ‘One eye-lid’ by 30-26 in the away fixture. Verdict: The Borderers are now fifth and will be eager to make amends after their disappointing showing against Corus in the league.Division Three (West):
Mumbles v Crymych
Undisputedly the top match of the day as unbeaten leaders Crymych travel to take on a mumbles side in second spot whose only defeat came by 36-25 in a corker of a match at Crymych. Verdict: The Preseli Men will need to be at their best form to win this one!Pontarddulais v Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest beat Pontarddulais 52-19 at home but know that the Bont are a different kettle of fish on their own patch. Verdict: The Blues are now fourth in the section table whilst the opposition are eighth – but this is sure to be a tough tussle and Haverfordwest will do well to win this one!Division Four (West)
Amman United v Milford Haven
Milford Haven have shown good form to climb to fourth place in a competitive division, with five wins and four defeats, whilst Amman United are second with an unbeaten record and games in hand on leaders Tenby United. Verdict: Amman United won 32-20 at The Observatory and will be favourites to complete the double over the Mariners.Cardigan v Tenby United
This is an intriguing clash as Cardigan entertain a Tenby United side which won 26-7 at Heywood Lane when the teams last met. Verdict: Cardigan will give 100% but I think this will be the Seasiders’ eighth win from nine outings so far.
Llanybydder v Neyland
Neyland enjoyed their second win of the campaign against Cefneithin but will find Llanybydder a much tougher challenge, particularly since the All Blacks are not the best travellers. Verdict: I think Llanybydder will win but with Mathew Williams likely to be back in action for the All Blacks who knows?
Pembroke Dock Quins v Betws
The Quins have home advantage over Betws and will be keen to avenge a 31-8 defeat at Betws earlier in the campaign. Verdict: The Quins will do well to get anything from a side which is fifth in the table.Division Five (West):
Burry Port v Fishguard
This is another top of the table clash as Fishguard travel to third-placed Burry Port knowing that the opposition shared 39 points with them at Fishguard, the only time the Seagulls haven’t won this season in the league. Verdict: The Seagulls should have enough power and skill to win this one if they are at full strength to travel!Pembroke v Swansea Uplands
Pembroke won 36-12 at Swansea Uplands and will be eager to maintain their momentum as genuine promotion contenders. Verdict: Ossie Boswell’s boy’s to win – and pouch a bonus point!
St Davids v Llangwm
A Pembrokeshire derby which is traditionally hard-fought and with Llangwm slight favourites since they are in sixth spot whilst St Davids are eighth but have home advantage. Verdict: It is almost impossible to predict but I’ll go for The Saints because they have home advantage!
