Fixtures for 8th January 2011

Swalec Cup:

Bridgend v Whitland
What a start for the Borderers in the Swalec Cup – an away tussle against unbeaten Bridgend, who are top of the Division One (West) table, with 13 wins and a draw from 14 league matches. Forecast: The Borderers are bonny battlers but seem certain to bow out at the first hurdle.

Llanharan v Narberth
These teams are traditional rivals since the National Leagues were formed but Llanharan now play in Division One (East) whilst the Otters are in the West section. Forecast: The Otters are higher placed than the Dairymen but must start favourites for this one with home advantage.

Division Three (West):

Haverfordwest v Mumbles
Haverfordwest face a stiff task in this fixture as they entertain a Mumbles’ side which is second in the table with eight wins from nine starts. Forecast: The Blues played really well to win at Laugharne but this is an even tougher prospect and they will do well to pick up a bonus point!

Division Four (West):

Aberaeron v Cardigan
Aberaeron are a daunting prospect at home on their ground abutting Cardigan bay, especially if the wind is blowing and it is raining. But Cardigan are in good nick and ready for some action. Forecast: I’ll go for Cardigan – they should win this one!

Neyland v Cefneithin
Neyland must start winning matches if they are to avoid the ‘dreaded drop’ after only one season in this section. Cefneithin are a point below the All Blacks in bottom place, but with a game in hand. Forecast: Come on the All Blacks – you can get 2011 off to a good start with victory here!

Milford Haven v Pembroke Dock Harlequins
If this match takes place then the rejuvenated Mariners will start hot favourites against old rivals Pembroke Dock Quins, especially since they are at home. Forecast: It might be closer than some pundits think but I believe that Milford will complete the double here, having won at Bierspool on the opening day of the season.

Division Five (West):

Fishguard v Penygroes
Fishguard are really hot favourites to take the points here because Penygroes are in eighth place and have struggled to do well. Forecast: The Seagulls to win – and pocket a bonus point!

Llangwm v Pembroke
Local derbies are often hard-fought and this one will be no exception as Llangwm entertain their old rivals Pembroke, with the Palmer Cup as well as precious league points up for grabs.

Forecast: The Wasps have played well in their most recent matches but Pembroke beat them 42-17 at home and will be looking to complete the double – and retain the Palmer Cup!

St Clears v St Davids
The battle of the Saints sees St Davids seeking a double after a narrow 7-6 home success over the Carmarthenshire Saints. Forecast: I think St Clears might just gain revenge unless our Saints are at full strength!
