Rugby Preview:
Fixtures for 20th November 2010
Division One (West):
Maesteg v Whitland
The Borderers have hauled themselves out of the danger zone under new coaches Randal Williams and Robin Davies and will be looking to add another win over bottom-placed club Maesteg. Verdict: Maesteg have won just once from nine starts and it will be one from ten after this defeat!
Narberth v UWIC
There should be points aplenty from this tussle because both teams like to play running rugby. The Students are fourth, with five wins and a draw from nine matches, whilst the Otters are currently second. Verdict: It should be close but I think the Otters should win this one.
Division Three (West):
Crymych v Haverfordwest
A local derby so a tough battle is expected as the Preseli Men aim to maintain their unbeaten record whilst the Blues will want to make amends for last week’s defeat. Verdict: Haverfordwest are capable of causing an upset but I have to go for Crymych on current form.
Division Four (West):
Milford Haven v Cefneithin
Milford Haven are due a run of good form and will be looking to add the scalp of 10th-placed Cefneithin to their other three wins so far. Verdict: The Mariners rarely travel well but should come home with victory here.
Pembroke Dock Quins v Cardigan
These two old rivals will do battle at Bierspool with Cardigan as favourites after good recent form but the Quins will be eager to climb out of the table’s bottom two. Verdict: The Teifisiders are currently third, with only two defeats from seven games and should just about ease home here.
Tenby v Llanybydder
Tenby United are top but have Amman United breathing down their necks so win over fourth-placed Llanybydder is imperative if they are to maintain their promotion hopes, Verdict: The Seasiders are a very strong unit at present and it will be another win for them at Heywood Lane.
Trimsaran v Neyland
Neyland are struggling at the foot of the table while Trimsaran are seventh – but the All Blacks are under-achieving because they have some very good players. Verdict: If they are at full strength, and have their heads on right, the All Blacks can win this one!
Division Five (West):
Fishguard v Pembroke
These two old rivals meet at The Moor with Fishguard in fourth place and Pembroke sitting atop the table, but with The Seagulls still undefeated from five starts. Verdict: Much will depend on who wins the forward battle but I think home advantage might just swing it Fishguard’s way, with Huw Evans directing operations behind the scrum.
Llangwm v Swansea Uplands
Llangwm have won three times from seven starts whilst Swansea Uplands are in nine spot with only two wins. Verdict: The Wasps to sting the Uplands – no doubt about it!
Penygroes v St Davids
This is a tough nut to crack for St Davids even though Penygroes are below them in the table because they usually do well at home. Verdict: The Saints should still be too strong up front for them – and could have a key man in skipper Fraser Watson returning to action!
