Rugby Preview for fixtures for
23rd October 2010
Division One (West):
Carmarthen Athletic v Narberth
Narberth face a tough tussle this weekend because although they are above Carmarthen Athletic in the table they always face stern opposition from the Athletic and mustn’t allow themselves to be muscled out of their stride. Verdict: The Otters to win this one – if they play at the top form of their form!Whitland v Llangennech
Llangennech sit below Whitland in the table so this should be a chance for the Borderers to add another scalp, especially if their pack plays well because Luke Kendall, Raff Williams, Ryan Michael and Co are on form. Verdict: No doubt here – it’s got to be a home win!Division Three (West):
Crymych v Pontarddulais
Like Crymych, Pontarddulais are in contention near the top of the table but they will not relish taking on the Preseli Men at home – and will surely try to use their pack power to stifle the homesters’ attacking play. Verdict: Elgan Vittle, the Griffiths boys and Gareth Davies will utilise hard-won possession and take Crymych to another win.Dunvant v Haverfordwest
How the mighty have fallen! Just a few short years ago the visitors were in the top echelon but are now mid-table in Division Three (West) and taking on a Haverfordwest side which likes to play attacking rugby whenever they can. Verdict: Come on the Blues – you can win this one!Division Four (West):
Hendy v Cardigan
Hendy are never easy to beat on their own patch but Cardigan travel there knowing that this is a game they can win if Mike Diggle, Nathan Murphy, Llyr Griffiths and Co can carry on with their recent form. Verdict: It could be close but I expect the Teifisiders to snatch the verdict here!Milford Haven v Neyland
This is undoubtedly the most difficult match of the day to predict because both Milford Haven and Neyland are unpredictable on their current form. Verdict: Both teams should be much higher in the table if they played to their potential and it could go any way – but I have a feeling that the Mariners might sail through this one!Pembroke Dock Quins v Llanybydder
Llanybydder are in contention at the top of the table whilst the Quins are at the other end and looking for points for a different reason. Verdict: I think Llanybydder will win – but will be delighted if Gareth Scourfield and his young team prove me wrong!Tenby United v Aberaeron
This could be a cracking match because Tenby United and Aberaeron are in the top five and going well, but the Seasiders have some very fine players like Tom Lewis, Sam Smith, Gareth Edwards and Gavin Brace in key positions. Verdict: Tenby to win and maintain their thrust for promotion.Division Five (West):
Bynea v Pembroke
Bynea are near the foot of the table whilst Pembroke are in the promotion race and looking strong, so on paper this should be a banker away win. Verdict: The Scarlets to win, as long as they keep their heads and play to their undoubted strengths.Fishguard v Pontyates
Fishguard are eager to push even further up the table and will be looking to pouch some points against Pontyates at The Moors as Steve Jenkins, Huw Evans and Rhys Williams lead the way. Verdict: My banker bet of the day as Fishguard entertain the sections’ whipping boys Pontyates and will be looking for a bonus point victory.St Clears v Llangwm
Llangwm travel to St Clears in search of success against a side which seems to have lost its way this season and sits in mid table. Verdict: Colin Picton and Richard Scriven have got the Llangwm lads fit so much will depend on what side they travel with – if they are at full strength they might just snatch a win!St Davids v Burry Port
Both teams have started the season really well but St Davids will be hoping for a full squad to take on a Burry Port outfit which is known for its quality back division. Verdict: The Saints will need to take on the visitors up front if they are to win – otherwise it could go Burry Port’s way.
