Warriors’ special footballing performances recognised

Cleddau WarriorsA large crowd of family, friends and invited guests were in attendance at Clarbeston Road village hall recently when the Cleddau Warriors celebrated their successes in football with their annual presentation evening, sponsored by Chevron.
The Warriors, formed to provide football for people with special needs, can now boast teams at under 12, under 16 and adult levels, with the presentations made by June and Phil Harries, of Clarbeston Road AFC, plus Bill Carne of PembrokeshireSport.co.uk.

Busy summer

The teams had played in no fewer than six festivals during the summer and had played well throughout so that every player involved received a commemorative trophy which included a small football and could be adapted as a classy key-ring.
The evening was organised by Angela Miles, the special needs sport development officer from Sport Pembrokeshire, and Ian Eynon, who does such a good job as treasurer of the Warriors.

Cleddau Warriors Over 16sTop awards

It was Angela who welcomed all the players and the rest of those in attendance – and announced the winners of the top awards, which were as follows:
Under 12 Player of the Year: Daniel Norton
Under 12 Most Improved Player of the Year: Alex Parry
Under 16 Player of the Year: Owen Richards
Under 16 Most Improved Player of the Year: Elliott Goddard
Over 16 Player of the Year: Stevie Sullivan
Over 16 Most Improved Player of the Year: Ryan Llewellyn
She also thanked Huw Bevan, Del Lewis, Steve Brown, Richard Bevan, Jason and Jack Sullivan, the Warriors’ coaches, who all received a small gift to mark their efforts.

Special highlight

One of the special highlights of a special evening was the cabaret, which was put on by some of the players, in conjunction with musicians from Wings over Pembs, who also play at the disability youth club which they hold on the first Thursday of every month at the Snowdrop Bar. They encourage the youngsters to participate and this was very much in evidence as there were renditions from some of the players that featured  Elvis, Abba and other top singers.
It nicely rounded off a great evening where the camaraderie so necessary for team sports was very much in evidence – and the Warriors received recognition for the commitment that they show to their football.
