Goodwick United AFC - Pen Pictures

  Carl Woodhouse
Aged 31
Housing Manager
Goalkeeper
Man of the match in the semi-final as he saved two penalties and also scored from the spot himself in the penalty shoot-out. A real shot-saver and a flamboyant character who likes to be involved in the game.

  Wayne O’Sullivan
Aged 32
Bricklayer
Right Back
A classy defender who can also play a part in attack with his ability to push forward and also with his long throw-ins. One of the best tacklers in the county and a natural reader of the game – and a Welsh amateur boxing champion as another string to his sporting bow!

  Nigel Delaney
Aged 35
Builder
Sweeper
Showed his depth of experience gained in Welsh League football in the semi-final with a classy performance, sweeping up well and cutting out attacking threats early. Calls the shots at the back and sure to take the penalties in the final if any come up!

  Anthony Couzens
Aged 20
Sales Representative
Central Defence
‘Chunk’ has formed a very strong partnership with Delaney at the back, using his strength in the air and strong tackling to keep out opposing attacks. Also quick to cover gaps and a useful distributor of the ball - and a very good cricketer and rugby player when he finds time!

  Darren Devonald
Aged 26
Builder
Left Back
Joined Goodwick from Letterston and has adjusted well to playing at left back, tackling well and getting forward whenever he has the chance. Nominated by his manager as a very sound and reliable player who trains really hard – so high praise indeed!

  Kieran O’Brien
Aged 20
Plasterer
Right Midfield
A talented all-rounder who can make and score goals, with his ability to be in the thick of the action and use his skills wide on the right – he has helped create chances for the Goodwick front men and scored vital goals, as he did with his header in the semi-final.

  Tom Jones
Aged 26
Retail Manager
Central Midfield
A real ball-winner with his ability to make crunching tackles but also a good distributor of the ball and a goal scorer as he is totally involved in all that Goodwick do. Superbly fit and following in the mould created by his father, RV Jones, who also ran many miles for Goodwick on the field!

  Ryan Thomas
Aged 32
Plumber
Central Midfield
Provides the experience in midfield as a long-serving player who can run all day, as he proved in the semi final with two shots he cleared off his own line whilst still being involved everywhere else. Currently training for an ‘Iron man’ challenge and sure to be well-supported as one of the most respected footballers in the county.

  Johnny Horgan
Aged 21
Bricklayer
Left Midfield
A natural left-footer who can play a key role in the final as the ready-made replacement for the injured Steve Evans. Will trouble defenders as he uses his natural pace to get to the bye-line and put in crosses, can tackle back and also score a few goals as a bonus.

  Jay Brockway
Aged 18
Builder
Striker
Jay has really made his mark this season after moving to Goodwick, scoring the vital first goal in the semi-final and always posing a threat with his aerial challenges and natural nose for goals. Will need some watching in the final!

  Dan Williams
Aged 25
Builder
Striker
A key player who has been a proven goal-grabber over the past couple of seasons - and another who is very strong in the air but also has natural close skills and pace that make him a real hand full for any defence.

  Ricky Bowen
Aged 32
Teacher
Midfield
Came on to score in the semi final shoot-out and a good man to have in a crisis because he is a skilful player who can slot in anywhere and do a solid job. Strong in the tackle and excellent with his distribution skills, he is sure to play a part.

  Steve Lewis
Aged 22
Youth Worker
Striker/Midfield
A great asset to the team with his ability to slot in anywhere and play a role for his manager. Can score goals or help create them in midfield so is ready to help Goodwick’s battle plans at some stage.

  Steve Evans
Aged 21
Barman
Striker
Unfortunately sustained an injury which has had him on crutches and made him unlikely to play a part – but he will be there with the team if he can’t play and is young enough to have the chance to score many more goals in the future!

  Bernie Armstrong
Aged 50
Insurance Consultant
Manager
Played in no fewer than six Senior Cup Finals and three West Wales Cup Finals in a distinguished playing career that also included representing the Wales Fire Brigade. Never gives less than 100%, still playing for the Pembs Over 45s – and a genuine nice guy!

  Brian Morris
Aged 54
Tax Officer
Asst Manager
A great servant for Goodwick and a very good player in his younger days – and another still playing for the Pembs Over 45s. A calm, astute reader of the game and the perfect foil for Mr Armstrong in a strong management team that sets high standards.

  John Davies

Joined Goodwick when he moved to the area and doing a good job in raising fitness levels, thus completing an even stronger team off the pitch

Merlins Bridge AFC - Pen Pictures

  Ian Kerrison
Aged 34
Civil Engineer
Goalkeeper ‘Kerro’ is a very experienced goalkeeper who has played in losing finals with Carew and the Bridge before so will be hoping for ‘third time lucky’ on this occasion. Deceptively agile for a big fellow and a very under-rated cricketer at Lamphey when he decides to play.

  Matthew D’Ivry
Aged 24
Building Site Manager
Right Back Another very good player who could slot in almost everywhere but currently doing a good job at right back, where he is ready to make runs from deep as well as making sure that his defensive duties are done well. This will be his second final after losing against Hakin last year.

  Paul Thomas
Aged 30
Dent Technician
Central Defence Very solid at the back and strong in the tackle but also a good distributor of the ball. Now a very experienced defender who is Bridge through and through – and eager to take part in his third Senior Cup Final.

  Chris Ormond
Aged 27
Builder
Central Defence Over the years has built up a reputation as a very good footballer who never gives anything but 100% for the Wizards. Deceptively quick to snuff out potential danger, an excellent tackler and useful distributor of the ball playing in his third final.

  Simon Thomas
Aged 24
Carpenter
Left Wing Back A key play-maker with his wicked corners and free kicks likely to cause consternation in any opposing defence. Sadly got injured in the semi-final and unlikely to feature on the big day – but sure to be there with his team-mates!

  Michael Canton
Aged 25
Satellite/Aerial Engineer
Right Midfield Bags of skill as an attacking player wide on the flank, with the ability to score lots of goals whilst also creating chances for others. Grabbed the vital first goal in the semi-final with his ability to be in the right place – and hoping for a first winner’s medal in his third final.

  Marcus Taylor
Aged 35
Police Officer
Central Midfielder Now the ‘old man’ of the side but still putting his experience to good effect in the heart of midfield, with his ability to not only win ball but use it well. Strong going forward at set-pieces and capable of scoring vital goals, this will be his fifth final and he will be hoping for a third win.

  Nathan Thomas

Central Midfield An influential member of the team who takes on the role of midfield ball-winner, relishing the big tackles and never one to shirk a challenge.

  Peter Thomas
Aged 24
Residential Care Worker
Left Midfield One of three brothers in the team alongside twin Simon and big brother Nathan, he is currently playing on the left and using his ability to read the game well. Strong in the air and a solid tackler, he is sure to be heavily involved in his third final.

  Steve McNabney
Aged 22
PTS Sales
Striker Like all good strikers he has a natural ‘nose’ for goals and is capable of turning a game with one flash of speed and wicked finish. Will be eager to show his goal-grabbing ability in the final and will need close watching!

  Haydn Ralph
Aged 25
Architectural Student Defender Has the capability to play anywhere in the defence and likely to feature even more in his manager’s plans now that Simon Thomas is injured. Very strong in the tackle and in the air, with the ability to read play well, this will be his first final.

  Ross Williams
Aged 18
Shop Assistant
Defender/midfield The youngest member of the squad and is definitely a future Wizards’ star in making. He’s strong in the tackle and comfortable on the ball. Equally at home playing in defence or midfield.

  James Skudder
Aged 23
Estate Agent
Midfield/Striker Joined the Wizards from Prendergast Villa and has caught the eye with his real pace and excellent ball skills. Has been used successfully so far as an impact player who is sure to play a part in his first final because he can also score spectacular goals as an added bonus.

  Ashley Prior
Aged 20
Retail Worker
Striker Ashley joined the Bridge after a spell with Monkton and has something to prove because he is a very useful player who can be used as a target man or a goal scorer. He has a good turn of speed and if he comes on he will serve his team well.

  Matthew Price
Aged 34
Physiotherapy Technician
Striker/Manager ‘Pricey’ is still playing well up front and scoring goals towards the end of a long and distinguished career in Premier and Welsh League for a number of clubs – and very experienced after successfully managing Newcastle Emlyn. Previously played in a final for Monkton and hoping to pick up a winner’s medal here!

  Peter Jones
Aged 42
Plasterer
Co-Manager Epitomises all that is good at Merlins Bridge after serving them for 25 years as a player and manager. Known to all as ‘Turkey’ he could play equally well as a tough-tackling defender or as a front man who would get in where the going was tough to score goals. One of the nicest, and most respected, people in local football.

The Officials . . .

Roy, Dean and Alan Boswell

A little piece of footballing history will be made when the Senior Cup Final takes place on the Bridge Meadow, since three brothers are in charge of the game as referee and two assistants!

Roy Boswell has been honoured with the final whilst brothers Dean and Alan will assist him with the flags, surely the first time that this has happened, not only in Pembrokeshire, but anywhere in the United Kingdom! Roy has been reffing for about 12 years after a long playing career with his home club of Johnston, Merlins Bridge, Hook and finally Milford Athletic, since he lived opposite their ground in Pill Lane. Roy has earned a reputation as a good official because he combines a no-nonsense approach with an ability to communicate with players that he served him well.

Dean Boswell is the oldest of the three brothers and also played for a number of years at Johnston, Merlins Bridge and Hook before taking up the whistle some seven years ago. Like Roy he is a good communicator with the players and has already refereed two Senior Cup semi-finals and the Division Two Cup Final – when Roy broke his arm and he replaced him!

Alan Boswell has already officiated at a Senior Cup Final and did a great job in the match between Pennar Robins and Monkton Swifts. He played all his football for Johnston and like his brothers, made the transition to refereeing a good one since he is also a very capable decision-maker who has the respect of players.

Bernie Coyle is the fourth official and his selection is reward for being another highly respected official who knows his job well. Bernie hails from Milford haven and his turn will come one day!
