The Bevan Boys are battered and bruised – but still chuckling
The Expert completed his demolition of the Bevan Boys last Saturday but congratulations to Huw and his sons Tom and Richard for the sporting way they took part, despite their defeat.
We at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk know that The Expert has been a little unkind to them at times but they have chuckled at all the insults and had a bit of fun with us, which is what our football preview is all about.
There is no doubt that the Bevan Boys will be asked back next season and not, as The Expert suggest, because they are easy to beat, but because all three are a credit to Clarbeston Road and to local football!
Can ‘Rocko’ beat the Expert?
The Expert now accepts a fresh challenge this week as he takes on the latest manager of a local football club to come up against his knowledge in Derek ‘Rocko’ Roberts, the manager of Haverfordwest County’s team in the Pembrokeshire League.
“I’m a little insulted at the fact that I’m not taking on the real manager of the Bluebirds in Derek Brazil but this little fellow will have to do, despite his daft nickname,” said The Expert. “I hear he played a bit of football at Merlins Bridge as a left back with two right feet but I’ll show him a bit about tipping.
“I’m especially keen to give him a beating because he used to slyly help Matthew Price when he was tipping against me but there’ll be no nipping over the garden fence to Pricey’s home at the moment because the pair’s teams are meeting in the Senior Cup semi-final - so are staying well away from each other!”
When we spoke to Mr Roberts he was his usual calm self and just said he was quietly confident because he always outplayed The Expert on the pitch – so let battle commence!
Scores (To appear here on Saturday evening)
Division One:
Clarbeston Road v Goodwick United
Haverfordwest County v Narberth
Herbrandston v Solva
Kilgetty v Neyland
Monkton Swifts v Merlins Bridge
Pennar Robins v Hakin United
Prendergast Villa v Tenby
‘Rocko’ Roberts’ Predictions:
Division One:
Clarbeston Road 0 - Goodwick United 3
Goodwick will be eager to get back to winning ways and Clarbie could get the back lash unless they play well.Haverfordwest County 2 - Narberth 1
This is going to be a really tough nut for us to crack but we believe we can go out and win, especially with home advantage.Herbrandston 2 - Solva 1
This is another hard game to forecast because both sides are a little inconsistent. But I go for Herbie to edge through.Kilgetty 1 - Neyland 2
Neyland did really well last week but so did Kilgetty, who have Nicky Cope playing well – and I think Neyland will just have the edge.Monkton Swifts 0 - Merlins Bridge 2
The Bridge need to keep up their challenge at the top and although it is never easy to win at Monkton lane the Wizards should have just a little too much fire-power for the Swifts.Pennar Robins 1 - Hakin United 3
Hakin are now back to something like full strength and the Robins are focussing on their cup matches – so I have to go with Gary Dawes’ boys.Prendergast Villa 1 - Tenby 2
Tenby start this match as favourites but they will find Prendergast Villa a tough side on their narrow pitch – but I still think Tenby will ease home by the odd goal. The Experts’ Scorecasts:
Division One:
Clarbeston Road 1 - Goodwick United 3
Haverfordwest County 1 - Narberth 2
Herbrandston 1 - Solva 3
Kilgetty 2 - Neyland 1
Monkton Swifts 1 - Merlins Bridge 4
Pennar Robins 1 - Hakin United 3
Prendergast Villa 1 - Tenby 3
