Beat the Expert - Week three
Fixtures for 2nd January 2010
Heavy snow spoils scorecasts again
Heavy snow swept through the county at the weekend and virtually wiped out the whole of the league programme. Only one game was played in Division One and both the Manderwood Mob and 'The Expert' predicted right - but not the right scoreline - so they added just a point each to their total. Weather permitting normal service will resume next week.
Manderwood Mob hope to make a come back
The boys at Manderwood have all made a New Year’s Resolution to try harder in their battle against the expert after they found themselves trailing by 5-3 after the first of four weeks and had the second week ignored because of the few games played.
So now the festivities are over (and hopefully the weather will relent) so that we can get back to some serious forecasting because The Expert is foaming at the mouth because he wants to get started again.
“I’ve had enough of all this Christmas Humbug,” he said, “and it’s time to get back into action. This crowd from Manderwood will be relaxed after too much eating and drinking so I’ll be too sharp for them. My footballing moles tell me that Chris Tansey was living it up at that posh golf place near Newport and he’s supposed to be the leader of this lot so I shouldn’t have too much trouble with the Mob this week.”
Chris Tansey, looking relaxed after his Black Tie dinner at the Celtic Manor, said that all his boys were eager to resume their tipping but weren’t back at work until next week so he gave his own verdicts this week and was confident that Manderwood’s would claw some points back this Saturday. All will be revealed on Saturday evening so watch this space!
Division One (Results to appear here on Saturday evening):
Goodwick United 5 - Prendergast Villa 0
Haverfordwest County v Hakin United - postponed
Herbrandston v Monkton Swifts - postponed
Kilgetty v Tenby - postponed
Merlins Bridge v Clarbeston Road - postponed
Narberth v Pennar Robins - postponed
Neyland v Solva - postponed
The Manderwood Mob Predictions:
Goodwick United 3 - Prendergast Villa 1
I think Bernie’s Boys will make a winning start to the New Year but they will need to play better than they have in some other home games.Haverfordwest County 1 - Hakin United 2
Haverfordwest County have been playing well but Hakin will be up for this one. They beat the County by 6-0 at home and although it should be close I think they will complete the double.Herbrandston 1 - Monkton Swifts 0
Both sides have struggled this season but I think it will be very close and Herbie will win by a single goal at homeKilgetty 1 - Tenby 2
On paper Tenby are hot favourites and although I think they will win it could be a lot closer than people think if Bobby Bevan has his team firing on all cylinders.Merlins Bridge 5 - Clarbeston Road 1
Merlins Bridge is the form side and Clarbie have been conceding a lot of goals so I think this is a banker bet for the Wizards.Narberth 2 - Pennar Robins 2
Definitely the hardest match to predict because they are very strong and full of confidence – so I’ll sit on the fence for once and let the Expert go for the winner!Neyland 3 - Solva 1
I daren’t forecast anything other than a Neyland win or I’ll never hear the end of it from Sean (Hannon) in work next week! I do think the Nomads will be too strong at home, and wouldn’t be surprised if they win by two goals. The Expert’s Scorecasts:
Goodwick United 2 - Prendergast Villa 1
Haverfordwest County 1 - Hakin United 2
Herbrandston 2 - Monkton Swifts 1
Kilgetty 1 - Tenby 3
Merlins Bridge 4 - Clarbeston Road 0
Narberth 3 - Pennar Robins 1
Neyland 1 - Solva 2
This Week’s Totals: The Manderwood Mob: 1 The Expert: 1
Score So far: The Manderwood Mob 5 The Expert: 7
