2nd January 2010
Division One (West):
Narberth v Carmarthen Athletic
Narberth will be boosted by their excellent win at Felinfoel and will be eager to gain revenge for a 31-10 defeat in Carmarthen earlier in the season. Verdict: The Otters can win this one if they are firing on all cylinders!Tonmawr v Whitland
Tonmawr won a hard-fought tussle in Whitland by 12-6 so the Borderers will be eager to redress that fact against one of only two teams who have so far beaten them. Verdict: If Whitland win this top of the table clash they can really consider themselves as serious contenders but I think Tonmawr will just shade the verdict.
Division Three (West):
Crymych v Gorseinon
Gorseinon are currently second whilst Crymych are fourth having won the same number of games but picking up fewer bonus points. Verdict: The Preseli Men have a game in hand, however, and they could move into the top three with a win against a team who slammed them 44-17 in Gorseinon!Llandeilo v Cardigan
This will be a hard match for cardigan against a Llandeilo team two places higher than them in third spot and looking to gain compensation for a narrow 2-18 reverse in Cardigan. Verdict: I have to go with Llandeilo since they are traditionally strong at home.Newcastle Emlyn v Haverfordwest
Newcastle Emlyn won16-12 in Haverfordwest in September and have gone on to win all but one of their ten games since to sit at the top of the section. Verdict: The Blues are battling hard in tenth place, with three wins and seven defeats – so the form book says it has to be Emlyn at Ddol Wiber.
Division Four (West):
Pembroke Dock Quins v Tumble
The Quins lost 33-9 in Tumble but will be stronger at home and eager to climb out of 11th place in the section, having won only three times from nine starts, whilst Tumble are top, having lost only one of nine matches. Verdict: The Quins are capable of beating anyone in Division Four (West) on their day but I think they are due for a ‘Tumble’ here!Tenby United v Pembroke
Pembroke beat Tenby at Crickmarren by 29-6 on the opening day of the campaign and also won at Heywood Lane in the cup before winning in the Swalec competition so it is hard to predict this local derby. Verdict: The Seasiders have considerably strengthened of lat and I think they will beat the Scarlets!Trimsaran v Milford Haven
Milford Haven beat Trimsaran 38-10 at home and Trim have since failed to win a game from eight starts, with just one draw. Verdict: The Mariners must return to winning ways in this one so that they keep the pressure on Tumble, hopefully with a bonus point.
Division Five (West):
Llangwm v St Clears
Llangwm played really well against Haverfordwest and if they can repeat that performance will push third-placed St Clears all the way, all the opposition are eager to win again after their shock defeat at St Davids. Verdict: The Saints won 51-17 at home and should still be good enough to win here if they are on form.Neyland v New Dock Stars
Neyland showed what they are capable of by beating Fishguard and it would only be over-confidence that would stop them winning this one. Verdict: The All Blacks won 26-24 at sixth –placed Stars but should win more easily here, perhaps with a vital bonus point if they are on top form.Pontyates v Fishguard
Fishguard will be anxious to return to winning ways after losing their 100% tag at Neyland and have just the chance against a Pontyates’ side which has won just once from eight starts. Verdict: The Seagulls won 53-3 at The Moors and should win comfortably here, hopefully with a bonus point.St Davids v Penygroes
St Davids have played well of late and will be looking to gain revenge for a 51-27 defeat in Penygroes early in their campaign. Verdict: It should be closer and I hope the Saints do well – but I have to go for the visitors on form!
