Fixtures for 12th December 2009
Swalec Cup First Round:
Narberth v Bridgend Athletic
On paper this should be a win for Narberth because they have already won by 24-18 at Bridgend Athletic so that should give the Otters some confidence. Since then, however, the Athletic have done quite well to reach eighth place, with four wins, one more than Narberth. Verdict: I have to go for Narberth, especially with home advantage.Whitland v Ystrad Rhondda
Whitland entertain Ystrad Rhondda knowing that they face a very physically strong side who have quickly made their way through the ranks and are currently in eighth place in Division One (East), having won three matches so far and lost five. Verdict: Ystrad are in a very competitive section but I still think that the Borderers will have just a little too much overall fire-power and should win through.Swalec Plate Round Two:
Crymych v Lampeter
Crymych have already beaten Lampeter Town by 30-17 in the league and on form should be capable of completing the double at Parc Lloyd Thomas. Verdict: Crymych are currently in third place whilst Lampeter are lingering in 11th so I think the Preseli Men are certainties for this one!Haverfordwest v Laugharne
These two met at Laugharne and Haverfordwest went down by 28-22 so if they can raise the tempo a little higher then they could make progress into the third round. Verdict: Much will depend on the sort of team Haverfordwest will be able to turn out after injury but if they have a half-decent squad they can win here.Swalec Bowl Round Three
Milford Haven v Llansawel
Llansawel are something of an unknown quantity in this area but since they are sixth in Division Six (West) it is to be assumed that Milford should be able to march on, as long as they play to their considerable potential. Verdict: Should be plain sailing for the Mariners!Pembroke v Fishguard
An intriguing local derby where Pembroke, from the Fourth Division, entertain a Fishguard side currently riding high in Division Five. Verdict: The Scarlets will look to use their pack power whilst the Seagulls will want to show that they can move up a section – and if pushed I think Pembroke might just edge through!Division Four (West):
Tenby United v Betws
Tenby United hope to play their previously postponed league match against a Betws side which has three wins and five defeats, the same as the Seasiders but with a bonus point more putting them two places higher. Verdict: Tenby to win, if they are at full strength and play to their potential.
