(Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football -Tom Yeoman Shield)
Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football Squad started off their Welsh Schools’ campaign with a tough fixture against Swansea Schools’ away from home.
Both Pembrokeshire sides played extremely well, with many boys making their debut in this high level of football. Pembs picked up nine out of the 12 points available with Swansea gaining the other three points on offer.
Pembrokeshire A 5 goals - Swansea A 1 goal
Pembrokeshire’s boys played well as a new team and they battled against a strong Swansea side. They created several scoring opportunities before Swansea scored the opening goal but Pembs captain Liam Cullen pulled one quickly back and Mark Stobbs added another soon afterwards. Cullen made it 3-1 with a superb header and Billy Truman added Pembs’ fourth just before halftime.The side defended well with Daniel Wainwright, Cameron Jenkins, Ryan Conbeer and Tom Murphy all tackling strongly. Frazer Findlay played well on the flank with Sion O’Sullivan holding the ball well up front. Cullen scored again in the second half to put the game well out of Swansea’s reach.
Pembrokeshire A 4 goals - Swansea B 0
After a shaky start Pembs produced some lovely football, resulting in Truman putting Pembs ahead. Stobbs scored two good goals, with Cullen adding another to give Pembs three vital points. Keeper James Harries kept a clean sheet and this was a very good team performance against a determined Swansea side.
Pembrokeshire B 1 goal - Swansea B 2 goals
Pembrokeshire started out brightly with Lewis Phillips and Alfie Stotter attacking the Swansea goal. Jack Griffiths linked well with Max Brindley, Luke Harries and Travis O’Conner, while Samuel Thomas, Daniel Llewellyn and Curtis Hicks all defended strongly. But Swansea went 1-0 ahead despite Pembs’ assault on the home team’s goal. Stotter had several chances that were thwarted by the Swansea keeper, before Phillips equalised. Either side could have won the game but Swansea scored the winner just before full time.Pembrokeshire B 1 goal - Swansea A 0
The Pembrokeshire boys were determined to gain the points from this game and attacked from the first whistle. Stotter put Pembs ahead in the first half and the team spent most of the second half defending strongly. Swansea came at them wave after wave and Tommy Davies in the Pembs goal was called on several times to keep them in the match.Swansea hit the crossbar several times but Pembs stood their ground and were relieved to hear the final whistle, taking 3 points well-deserved points from the game
