Div-1 Cricket Report : 15th AugustMatch 1Carew increase lead as Llangwm crashCarew (182 for 6) beat Llangwm (96 all out)Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Tony WaldeisScorer: Mike Scourfield (Carew)
Carew batted first and scored a reasonable 182 for six wickets in their allotted 40 overs after a slightly delayed start and Llangwm looked likely to put up some resistance at 45 without loss and still at 82 for 3 but then their batting weaknesses of this campaign were again highlighted as they lost their last seven wickets for only 13 runs. Carew showed their all-round batting strength as Nick Scourfield (30) and Ian Sefton (34) allowed them a start of 65 runs – and there was another healthy partnership of 86 between Brian Hall (50) and Simon Wood (43) before Wood departed and then Hall went as the first scalp in an excellent hat-trick by young Llangwm pace bowler Andrew Brock. Next to follow was Phil Jones, well caught by Chris Inward, and then Martin Scourfield, clean bowled for a duck to give Brock and his Llangwm colleagues something to celebrate. Llangwm also made a promising start via Joseph Kiff and Chris Inward before Kiff was bowled by Carew skipper Rob Scourfield for 12 with the score on 45. Inward went on the attack in typical fashion as he had seven fours and two sixes in his top score of 62 before he was clean bowled by Rhys Davies – and from then on not one visiting player could manage double figures against Rob Scourfield (4 for 19), Rhys Davies (3 for 42) and leg-spinner Ceri Brace (3 for 15) as Llangwm were shot out in only 26 overs to give Carew a deserved maximum points haul.
Match 2Miller keeps Neyland from defeatNeyland (131 for 8) drew with Cresselly (185 all out)Umpires: Trefor Evans & John AustinScorers: John Laugharne & David Richards
Andrew Harris (16) and Phil Williams (37, including five fours) gave Cresselly a solid start but they fell from grace a little as they moved from 55 without loss to 65 for 4 as Henry Durrant grabbed 3 for 22 and Patrick Hannon bowled his usual miserly spell for a 1 for 27 analysis. Cresselly bat right down the order, however, and good knocks by James Venables (31) and Julian Arthur (21) were followed by an even better 44 not out (four fours and a six) from Damian Arthur. Phil Davies claimed 2 for 51 from his off-spin and there was a wicket for Andrew Miller but Cresselly finished with a high score despite three run outs in the inevitable chase for late runs. Andrew Miller held himself back in the No 7 berth and he stroked five fours en route to a half century before he was bowled by talented young Cresselly pace man Jack Murphy. There was also some useful late batting by keeper Sean Hannon (19 not out) and Henry Durrant (10 not out) but it was always in game-saving mode because of Neyland’s earlier batting problems and they had to settle for a losing draw where Cresselly pouched the lion’s share of the points on offer.

Match 4
Whitland win last ball thriller
Whitland (171 for 9) beat Hook (170 all out)
Umpires: John Williams & Dave Morris
Scorers: Janice Webb & Joy James
Whitland edged to a last ball thriller win at home to Hook in a game whose result goes a long way towards deciding who might drop back into division two after Whitland needed two runs from the last ball bowled by Ross Martin and last man Carl Smith got them!
Martin had just removed Bobby Webb from the previous delivery and Smith launched a shot into the air which might have been caught but somehow evaded the clutches of the Hook fielders and he was able to scamper the two runs needed with last-pair partner Dan Newton.
Hook had set a challenging target for Whitland as Jamie Phelps scored 31 (four fours and a six) alongside Ben Field (six fours and three sixes in his 59) as they put on 86 for the first wicket.
Martin Rees contributed four fours in his hard-hitting 35 and Mick Haltam finished unbeaten on 18 as Whitland relied on their wickets from old-timers Mark Lee (6 for 55) and Paul Webb (4 for 36).
Whitland made an uneasy start when Paul Davies and Dai Lee departed early but Matthew ‘Titch’ Davies set about the Hook batting in typical fashion with 12 boundaries in his 67 runs before he fell to Ross Martin as part of an excellent 5 for 27 stint from the Hook pace-man. Steve Fraser (18) and skipper Mark Lee (24, before he was run out late on) were the other main contributors to the Whitland cause and their relief at the end was evident since this was such an important match for both teams and Hook will now find it difficult to retain the top- echelon status whilst Whitland now look likely to stay.

CUP FIXTURES & RESULTS

Carew increased their lead at the top of the table with a comprehensive victory over a Llangwm outfit, which, barring miracles, is now condemned to division two next season.
Yet another half century by Neyland skipper Andrew Miller helped his side gain a draw against Cresselly but there was little chance of victory as Cresselly posted a sizeable score which was soon out of reach as the homesters lost five wickets for only 46 runs, with 21 of them coming from Scott John.
Match 3
Put in to bat first, Lawrenny could only muster 106 all out as teenage left arm swing bowler Simon Williams tore into them with a 5 for 25 spell, ably assisted by a 4 for 21 haul from canny slow bowler Clive Tucker. Adam James picked up the other wicket, and a superb running boundary catch to get rid of James Buckle when he was on 23 (four fours) and looking a danger.
