Match 1

Hook hold on for battling draw

Hook (198 for 9) drew with Haverfordwest (237 for 2)

Richard James strokes to a tonUmpires: Arthur Brady & Tony Scourfield

Scorers: Joy James & Jayne Cole

Hook earned a draw against Haverfordwest despite the fact that Adam James claimed two wickets in his final over grab a five-wicket haul, with William Goronwy joining Andrew Thomas and keeping out James for the hat-trick ball as well as scoring two runs.

Hook deserve credit because they were without key players Jamie Phelps and Ross Martin but Keith James showed he can still play well at this level as he scored 34 runs after The Town had batted first and scored a mammoth 237 for 2 before declaring.

Haverfordwest openers Potter and James have featured in some big stands, including an unbroken one of 115 against Hook just two days before – and they continued the carnage here as they sped past the three-figure mark and reached 183 before Potter went to pull a ball across the line and was adjudged lbw for 62 from 103 balls, including eight fours, to give Tom Blaxland a deserved wicket.

Danny Potter congratulates Richard JamesJames was in sublime form, bringing up his century from only 121 deliveries, with a lovely on drive for four and then an off drive to the boundary. He had scored 119 when he finally gave a catch to Andrew Thomas off the bowling of 14 year old Jack Britton, who had spilled a difficult return catch when James was in the 40s but bowled his leg-spin really well.

Karl Rhead (22) and Danny Field (17) maintained the momentum until Haverfordwest finally declared after 43 overs, thus giving Hook 47 overs to reach such a big score.

Ben Field led the Hook innings with a splendid 75 (ten fours and two sixes) before he gave a catch to his brother Danny off Steve Phillips’ bowling. Brennan martin (40), Matthew Rowlands (23) and James also batted well for Hook as Adam James ended with 5 for 59 alongside Simon Williams, who marked his first-team debut with 2 for 31 and Phillips (2 for 29). There were a few wobbles once Ben Field departed but they held on for some draw points with their gritty approach.

Match 2

Whitland wipe out depleted Llangwm

Llangwm (48 all out) lost to Whitland (49 for 0)

Chris Inward bowled by Matthew DaviesUmpires: Alan Hansen & Glyn Pawlett

Scorer: Janice Webb

Whitland strolled to a ten-wicket win at Pill Parks against a depleted Llangwm side which played throughout with only ten men, batted badly against some lively Whitland bowling – and paid the inevitable price.

Put in to bat, Llangwm were in immediate bother as they faced Whitland ‘young guns’ Iestyn Scourfield and Carl Smith, lurching to 25 for 5 As Scourfield grabbed 4 for 7 in seven overs and Smith supported with 1 for 14.

Chris Inward managed to smash three consecutive boundaries off Mark Lee in a top score of 19 but wickets fell at the other end to Matthew Davies, who grabbed 3 for 6, including Inward’s scalp, whilst skipper Lee finished on 1 for 17 as Llangwm struggled to 48 all out in 20.1 overs.

Whitland openers Paul Davies and Dave Lee then proceeded to show Llangwm how to bat as Davies scored 31 not out (six fours) and Dave Lee was unbeaten on 16 not out (including a big six) as Whitland strolled home in 10.4 overs to claim 26 very important points whilst Llangwm garnered just a single pint on a day to forget for them.

Match 3

Tight finish at Tish

St Ishmaels (136 for 7) drew with Neyland (145 all out)

Stewart Kimpton - runs and wickets for TishUmpires: Steve Blowes & Walter Dash

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Kirsty Hughes

There was a tight finish at St Ishmaels as the home side failed by just ten runs to beat Neyland’s score in an absorbing clash where the result could have gone either way until the final over before they settled for the draw with three wickets still in hand.

Neyland had started the match well with an opening stand of 51 between Paul Murray (27) and Ashley Sutton (29) but lost wickets to Stewart Kimpton and Andrew Williams before Andrew and Gregg Miller shared four boundaries with respective scores of 13 and 19. Phil Davies hit a late 14 not out as Danny Flynn’s slow stuff earned him figures of 3 for 26, supported with a late 2 for 12 from Andrew Palmer, and Neyland were left with a reasonable score of 145 all out, but perhaps fewer than they might have hoped for after such a solid start.

Tish struggled early on as the ultra-accurate Patrick Hannon grabbed the prized scalps of Andrew Palmer (3) and Peter Bradshaw (second-ball duck) whilst Henry Durrant  shifted Jonathan Pawlett for a duck at the other end. But Stewart Kimpton stood firm with 61 (four fours) before he was neatly stumped by Sean Hannon off Phil Davies, who finished with 2 for 40 alongside Hannon (2 for 15 in 12 overs) – and Andrew Williams provided excellent support with 40.

Gary Lloyd claimed the wickets of Steve Hartley and James Salter with successive deliveries for Neyland from his single over but it was too little, too late as Tish were able to hold on for the draw and Brendan Moon held out on the hat-trick delivery to make it a good day for Tish’s Aussie contingent!

Match 4

Carew look good for the title

Lawrenny (223 all out) lost to Carew (224 for 4)

Tim Hicks - Carew match winnerUmpires: Hilliard Davies & Trefor Evans

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Russell Knox

Carew took a major step towards claiming the section silverware as they batted really well to chase down a big Lawrenny score of 223 all out thanks to a superb undefeated innings by Tim Hicks, ably assisted by Simon Wood and Wayne Cannon, to pick up maximum points as their reward.

Lawrenny’s batting line-up showed resilience as they recovered from a parlous 10 for 2 to build their big score where almost every other batsman contributed despite the yeoman bowling of Rhys Davies (3 for 46) and Tim Hicks (3 for 35), alongside other wicket-takers Simon Wood (2 for 51) and Ian Sefton (1 for 22).

James Buckle led the way for Lawrenny with a typically belligerent 72 (six fours and three sixes) as Steve Lewis provided the main support with 51 runs that included four boundaries and two sixes. Lawrenny skipper Hugh Griffiths chipped in with 21 before he was run out, Brad Jenkins had two sixes and two fours in his 33 and dad Ian supported with 23 runs before Lawrenny lost wickets in the inevitable late run chase to end on 223 all out with three balls of their allotted overs left.

Rob Williams bowled well for Lawrenny after tea as he removed Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield, with Ben Cole getting rid of Brian Hall to leave Carew a little uncomfortable on 46 for 3. Wood looked in fine fettle with three fours in his 32 before he was run out after sharing a stand of 76 with Hicks, who plundered all the later Lawrenny bowlers to such good effect that he ended up unbeaten on 94 (six fours and five sixes) when a hundred was no more than he deserved. Wayne Cannon provided the perfect foil as he fired three fours and two sixes in his 40 not out as he and Hicks shared an unbroken partnership of 102 which took Carew through to an impressive 30 points with six wickets and 11 balls still in hand.

Match 5

Narberth tail-enders hold out well

Cresselly (160 all out) drew with Narberth (138 for 9)

Matthew Johns - bowled well for Narberth Umpires: Huw Davies & Barry Wood

Scorers: Lois Howlett-Dyer & Peter Hughes

Narberth tail-enders Connor Lloyd and Matthew Johns denied Cresselly victory as the talented teenage keeper and veteran slow bowler survived a late onslaught from the Cresselly bowlers to earn a share of the spoils.

Cresselly had totalled 160 all out, led by Andrew Harries (34) and Phil Williams (50) in an opening stand of 50 where Harries stroked seven fours and Williams struck two fours and two sixes. But their middle order never got going and it was left to Damian Arthur (23) and Neilson Cole (17) to take them to a reasonable score against good bowling by Johns (4 for 29), Greg Morris (2 for 27) and Kyle Quartermaine (2 for 21).

Narberth also made a good start through Wayne Howells (17) and Mike Scale (38) in a partnership of 45 before Howells was caught by Neilson Cole off Richard Harris, who had 2 for 20 in another 12 miserly overs.

Marc Hughes (24) and Kyle Quartermaine (23) helped build the Narberth total but both fell to Simon Cole as part of a 4 for 18 haul by the Cresselly captain, who was ably assisted by his namesake Neilson behind the wicket with four stumpings and a catch. Lyn Richards (2 for 34) and James Venables (1 for 46) were the other Cresselly wicket-takers but Messrs Lloyd and Johns kept them out before Cresselly set off on their long journey to Sussex!
