Rob Scourfield appeals for lbw against Adam RaymondMatch 1

Town trounced by runaway Carew

Haverfordwest (75 all out) lost to Carew (76 for 1)

Umpires:
Dave Brandon & John Williams

Scorers:
Jayne Cole & Michael Scourfield

Carew confirmed their place at the head of the league table and effectively ended Haverfordwest’s interest in retaining the silverware as they bowled out The Town for a meagre 75 runs and strolled through with the loss of just one wicket.

Ian Sefton bowls to Andrew Phillips Carew skipper Rob Scourfield did his first job right by winning the toss and asking Haverfordwest to bat first and then joined Ian Sefton in tormenting the home batsmen with four wickets apiece as Haverfordwest lurched from 16 without loss to 36 for 6 before Adam James spared their blushes a little with 31 not out that included two fours and a big six.

Opening bat Richard James was the only other home batsman to manage double figures as Sefton (4 for 23) and Rob Scourfield (4 for 16) were assisted by some good fielding, especially from keeper Aled Griffiths, who pouched four catches himself. Rhys Davies chipped in with 2 for 19 and an unexpected final tally for The Town of only 75 runs.

Haverfordwest knew they would need early wickets on a damp track that was breaking up on top but Carew openers Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield were soon into their stride and raced past the 50-mark without the semblance of a chance. Sefton belted five fours in his 38 before he tried to cut a ball from Clive Tucker and was bowled – but Scourfield finished on 22 not out and saw Carew home by nine wickets with Brian Hall at the other end – and a match billed as a possible humdinger was all over by 5.15pm!

Paul Murray - 61 not out in Neyland strollMatch 2

Murray in a hurry for Neyland

Neyland (94 for 0) beat Hook (93 all out)

Umpires: Dave Loosmore & Huw Davies

Scorers: John Laugharne & Joy James

Neyland also enjoyed a positive result prior to their Harrison-Allen Bowl Final appearance on Saturday as they limited a makeshift Hook side to only 93 runs and then reached their target without losing a wicket as Paul Murray raced to 61 not out.

Henry Durrant grabbed two early wickets for Neyland and only No 6 batsman Mick Haltam ever looked settled with 35 runs (two fours and two sixes) with support from William Goronwy (15) as the only other batsman in double figures against Phil Davies (3-23), Gary Lloyd (1-21), Andrew Miller (2 for 18) and Durrant (2 for 11) before Ashley Sutton finished things off with the final wicket from only two balls bowled.

Scott John sensibly dropped anchor when Neyland batted since he could see Murray was in good nick, and although John scored only 12 not out it was an important job as Murray was dropped on the boundary in his 40’s but marched relentlessly on with eight fours and three big sixes to his credit.

Kyle Quartermaine - runs & wickets for NarberthMatch 3

Narberth fight back for fine win

Narberth (102 all out) beat Llangwm (61 all out)

Umpires: Hilliard Davies & Dai Morris

Scorer: Peter Hughes (Narberth)

Narberth fought back well to inflict defeat on Llangwm after the home side had only managed 102 runs on a damp pitch but then, led by the Quartermaine brothers, reduced Llangwm to the rubble of 54 all out.

Narberth captain Ritchie Adams (25) and Kyle Quartermaine (23) led their batting and there were double figures from Mike Scale, Marc and Ian Hughes as they squeezed past three figures against useful bowling by Andrew Brock (3 for 30), Andrew Harries (2 for 29), Chris Inward, particularly impressive with 3 for 12 in 11 overs, and Luke Brock, with 2 for 4 at the end.

A target of 103 must have seen within Llangwm’s scope but Ben Quartermaine maintained his recent good form with 4 for 7 in 11 overs and younger brother Kyle grabbed 3 for 11 in seven overs. Ian Hughes also used his experience to good effect with 3 for 13 so that only William Beresford (18) and Joseph Kiff (13) ever stayed for long and Llangwm were hustled out for 54 to keep them firmly pinned at the foot of the table whilst Narberth can be well pleased with this success.

Simon Cole - runs and wickets for CressellyMatch 4

Cresselly at a canter

Cresselly (143 for 1) beat St Ishmaels (141 all out)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Steve Blowes

Scorers: Lois Howlett-Dyer & Wendy Bradshaw

Cresselly warmed up nicely for the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final with an easy nine-wicket win over St Ishmaels, whose final score of 143 all out never seemed likely to test the powerful Cresselly batting line up.

And that was just the way it turned out as James Venables stroked 43 not out (three fours and two sixes) alongside Andrew Harris (32) before the latter was run out by a direct hit from Scott Findlay, but Cresselly skipper Simon Cole hit seven boundaries in his 44 not out and there were 24 extras as Cresselly cantered home.

In sharp contrast, only Phil Cockburn (36 not out, four fours), Stewart Kimpton 33) and Andrew Williams (30) ever looked settled for Tish against the bowling of Ryan Lewis (4 for 44), Lyn Richards (1 for 41), Simon Cole (2 for 31) and Richard Harris (1 for 5) so that Tish’s tally simply wasn’t high enough in the final analysis!

James Buckle - runs and wickets for LawrennyMatch 5

Whitland hold on for draw

Whitland (120 for 9) drew with Lawrenny (189 for 8)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Denis Chiffi

Scorers: Janice Webb & Malcolm Thomas

Whitland’s last pair batted out the final overs against Lawrenny to secure a draw but it was the visitors who returned home with the bulk of the bonus points after they had batted well and made sure that the homesters rarely looked likely to secure success.

Opening bat Brad Jenkins had eight fours and two sixes in his top score of 58 for Lawrenny, ably assisted by James Buckle (26) and James Phillips (24), this duo sharing three sixes and three fours, whilst Andrew Cole had 39 (five fours) in his 39 as part of an opening stand of 83 with Jenkins. Dave Lee claimed 4 for 20 as the pick of the Whitland attack alongside Iestyn Scourfield (3 for 28) and Johnny Thomas (1 for 30).

Steve Fraser stroked nine fours in his 46 for Whitland and found excellent support from Ed John (30, including five fours) but other batsmen struggled against Buckle (4 for 28), Steve Lewis (2 for 13), Richard Prout (2 for 33) and Rob Williams (1 for 16) so that only Dai Lee and Paul Webb could muster double figures, with veteran all-rounder Webb still there at the end to ensure that Whitland didn’t lose
