Harrison-Allen Bowl - 2009 Final
(to be played at Cresselly on Saturday 1st Aug)
sponsored by Hugh Harrison-Allen and
Graham/Jewson Building Supplies

At a glance, here's the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final pen picture line-ups of Cresselly C. C. and Neyland C. C.

Simon Cole

Andrew Miller

Simon Cole - Aged 30
Policeman

In his first season as skipper and rightly regarded as one of the best batsmen in the county, with the ability to turn a game on its head, as he has done in a previous  final, as well as a useful slow bowler, ‘Snowy’ is playing in his fifth final and hoping for a third win.

Andrew Miller - Aged 33
Refinery Performance Analyst

Currently in the form of his life and leading the team by example as he top scored with 45 not out and claimed 4 for 20 against Carew in the semi-final. Went even better against Haverfordwest with 5 for 9, and with scores of 41 and 46 in previous rounds, he is a good reader of the game and is one to watch for the final.

Phil Williams

Paul Murray

Phil Williams - Age 28
Teacher

Moved to Cresselly from Hundleton and has become one of the most free-scoring right-hand batsmen in the county, with good shot selection and excellent running between the wickets. He is also good in the field and a key player in the Cresselly team. This will be his third Bowl final.

Paul Murray - Aged 21
Accountant

A very forceful opening bat who can score runs freely  all around the ground once he gets into his stride. ‘Minty’ can also keep wicket, as he did in the semi-final, where he claimed a couple of stumpings, but is a useful fielder with a safe pair of hands that he also uses well on the rugby pitch.

Andrew Harris

Scott John

Andrew Harris - Aged 21
Student

Has returned from college with a string of runs that should ensure him a place in the team as a stylish right-handed batsmen. He already has two winner’s medals and will be hoping to maintain his 100% record.

Scott John - Age 24
Teacher

A very stylish opening bat who loves to stroke the ball to the boundary rope, he scored 42 runs in each of the opening two rounds and claimed a couple of wickets with his deceptive slow stuff. Will be eager to impose himself early in the final to give his side a flying start.

Adam Chandler

Nick Kooman

Adam Chandler - Aged 21
Architect Technologist

A very forceful right-handed batsman who loves hitting sixes and is a more than useful fielder as a bonus. He has already played in three finals and if he goes well then it is a fair bet that Cresselly will register big scores.

Nick Kooman - Aged 19
Apprentice Carpenter

A reliable right handed batsman who can provide the perfect foil to the Neyland main run-getters with his ability to glide the ball into spaces and keep the strike rotating. Nick is also a very good fielder with a safe pair of hands and can be relied upon to give 100%.

James Venables

Gregg Miller

James Venables - Age 20
Draughtsman

Joined Cresselly this season from Burton and has made an impact with his right handed batting where he can score runs at a pace. ‘Veggie’ is also a very good spin bowler as an option for his captain – and no slouch in the field, either.

Gregg Miller - Aged 33
Refinery Operator

The ‘Mr Motivator’ of the team with his enthusiasm in the field alongside his catching and throwing prowess. A very good batsman who carried Neyland into the semis with his unbeaten 31 against Haverfordwest – and a more than useful bowler when his confidence is high.

Julian Arthur

Ashley Sutton

Julian Arthur - Aged 33
Roadworks Technician

One of the most popular cricketers in the county and a powerful left-handed bat who loves nothing better than putting the ball over the boundary rope. Known to his team-mates as ‘Psycho’ this will be his sixth final, and he will always try to lift his colleagues in the field.

Ashley Sutton - Aged 16
Student

One of the most talented young players in the county and the only representative from Pembrokeshire currently in the Welsh under 16 squad as a very good all-rounder. Already a classy batsman, bowls with accuracy and pace – and a real boon in the field as the youngest player in the final.

Damian Arthur

Jeremy Charles

Damian Arthur - Aged 30
After-Sales Manager

Like his older brother, Damian is a strong left-handed batsman who can score vital runs in the middle order and is a more than useful fielder with a safe pair of hands. He has already played in four finals and will be eager for a third winner’s medal on his own ground.

Jeremy Charles - Aged 24
Plumber

Missed the semi-final but must be considered for the final because he can exert a real influence with his stroke play and ability to boost the run rate at key times with some huge hits. Can also bowl when needed, and again a strong fielder as another bonus.

Ryan Lewis

Henry Durrant

Ryan Lewis - Aged 32
House Husband

Another of the key players in the team because he bats and bowls on a regular basis. He can hit the ball many a mile and is a constant threat at the crease, and will also use his slow stuff to good effect as one of the main Cresselly bowlers in his sixth final.

Henry Durrant - Aged 19
Student

Another of the key players who missed the semi but stakes a claim for a final appearance by dint of his all-round ability. A pacy left arm bowler who gives little away and a useful striker of the cricket ball – and a very good young footballer with Haverfordwest County.

Lyn Richards

Patrick Hannon

Lyn Richards - Aged 41
Environmental Control Officer

Typifies Cresselly’s winning mentality as a middle order batsman who can score runs and a useful medium pace bowler who can take wickets. This will be his seventh final, four of them as the team captain – and he will be looking to grab a fourth winner’s medal.

Patrick Hannon - Aged 21
Security Officer

He typifies Neyland’s whole-hearted approach as he never gives less than his very best. Normally opens the bowling and very difficult to get away with his precision line and length – he can also score runs from the lower middle order and fields as well as most in the county.

Richard Harris

Phil Davies

Richard Harris - Aged 51
Control Engineer

The oldest player on the field but a vital cog in the side with his vast experience as this will be his 11th final. He used to open the batting for Wales but now plays as a key bowler with his deceptive slow stuff taking wickets, as he did with five wickets against Lawrenny in the semi-final.

Phil Davies - Aged 25
Site Worker

One of the key players because on his day there is no better off-spin bowler in the county and he is a very powerful hitter of the ball, as he proved in the semi when he belted two late sixes in his 21 not out that helped Neyland achieve a challenging final tally.

Neilson Cole

Sean Hannon

Neilson Cole - Aged 25
Teacher

‘Nelly’ is the team wicket-keeper with a safe pair of hands and an eye for stumping chances – but he can also bat lower down when needed and claim good runs. He has already played in three finals and is important as someone who ‘gees up’ everyone in the field with his own performances.

Sean Hannon - Aged 21
Roof Truss Designer

Sean is the twin brother of Patrick and the team wicket-keeper with a safe pair of hands and the ability to claim stumpings that might swing a game –and he can also bat lower down when needed to claim good runs. Missed the semi but should be there on the day with his gloves.

Stefan Jenkins

Patrick Bellerby

Stefan Jenkins - Aged 24
Teacher

The main strike bowler in the team who travels down from his work in the Swansea area for every match. Very enthusiastic in the field and grabs his share of the wickets with his right-arm pace stuff - and this will be his fourth Bowl final.

Patrick Bellerby - Aged 17
Student

A rapidly developing batsman who has achieved his first century for the seconds this season and appeared in the quarter and semi-finals. Took two vital catches in three balls against Haverfordwest as proof of his fielding ability and another who will serve the club well in the future.

Sam Harts

Gary Lloyd

Sam Harts - Aged 17
Student

Very enthusiastic in all he does, whether it be bowling, batting or fielding, and a good all-rounder who also plays rugby and football. Could well be used as the 12th man with his effervescent ways – and one to watch for the future.

Gary Lloyd - Aged 47
Shipwright

The ‘grand old man of the team’ who hadn’t really bowled a ball in earnest until he was called in at short notice for the semi and bowled his five overs of off-spin really well. Can also wield a bat when needed – and might just be chosen for a second game if needed!

Scott Arthur

Paul Miller

Scott Arthur - Aged 19
Student

Has scored plenty of runs this season and could feature in the team’s plans at some stage if anyone is unavailable – and certainly wouldn’t let Cresselly down because he has the right temperament to do well.

Paul Miller - Aged 21
Project Manager

The third Miller brother to battle for a place in the final and a useful all rounder because he bats well, can turn his arm over nicely and plays a key role with his enthusiastic fielding. If he is selected he certainly won’t let Neyland down.

The UMPIRES . . .

Tony Scourfield

Hilliard Davies

Tony Scourfield (Carew) - Aged 61 - Retired

This will be Tony’s first final and, like Hilliard, he is highly respected on the circuit for his calm approach to the game and his solid decision-making. Played much of his own cricket as one of the top batsmen at Lawrenny but is now heavily involved at Carew, where all three of his sons play for the village club’s first team.

Hilliard Davies (Whitland) -Aged 70 - Retired

A highly respected umpire who took up the white coat after many years as the main run-getter and useful bowler for Whitland, where he is now club president in recognition of all his work there. This will be Hilliard’s second final, having joined Les Hastings in the middle for the 2003 final where Carew beat Haverfordwest.

The SCORERS . . .

John Laugharne

Lois Howlett-Dyer

Lois Howlett-Dyer

Lois is the regular scorer at Cresselly and this will be her fourth final keeping tally. She loves the game and plays for the ladies’ team so is not just a pretty face at the final!

John Laugharne - Aged 69
Retired

John played cricket in Harrison-Allen Finals and rugby for Neyland before switching to golf at Milford Haven. Started scoring for Neyland at the start of the season and has become the team’s good luck charm – and he will relish a day out at Cresselly for the Bowl Final! . .
