Match 1 - Hook versus St Ishmaels

1.	Peter Bradshaw hooks a ball for four.Hook enjoy winning habit

Hook (198 for 5) beat St Ishmaels (195 for 9)

Umpires: John Williams & Huw Davies

Scorers: Joy James & Wendy Bradshaw

Hook clearly enjoy the winning habit because they followed up their first victory the previous week with another good five-wicket success over St Ishmaels. They bowled and fielded enthusiastically as Tom Blaxland led the way and a cracking opening partnership between Jamie Phelps and Ben field took them to within sight of success before they lost a few wickets.

Jamie Phelps - runs and wickets for HookAsked to bat first, Tish looked for runs from the outset and although they lost wickets to Jamie Phelps (3 for 32) and Tom Blaxland (3 for 22) they moved close to the 200 mark thanks to solid knocks by Jonathan Pawlett (four fours in 40), Daniel Flynn (three fours and a six in his 44), plus Stewart Kimpton (30, including three fours and a six).

Phelps and Field took Hook to a ten-wicket win the previous week and it looked as if they might repeat the process as they put on 154 runs before Phelps was caught by Findlay off Andrew Williams’ bowling for 76, including 11 fours and a six.

Ross Martin, having waited so long, came and went for a duck to Stewart Kimpton and Field finally became Williams’ second scalp on 69 having batted really well. Brennan Lay and Brennan Martin also fell cheaply as Kimpton grabbed 3 for 27 but Mick Haltam (16 not out) and veteran keeper Martin Rees kept their heads as Hook picked up another 29 points in their climb up the table.

Match 2 - Cresselly versus Llangwm

Chandler helps Cresselly to victory

Adam Chandler - match-winning innings for CressellyCresselly (195 for 6) beat Llangwm (193 all out)

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Hilliard Davies

Scorer:  Lois Howlett-Dyer

An undefeated innings of 72 by Adam Chandler ensured Cresselly gained a four wicket win over current basement boys Llangwm, who had batted well to reach a reasonably big score but couldn’t halt the Cresselly run-machine after tea.

Llangwm suffered an early reverse when Joseph Kiff edged a Stefan Jenkins lifter to keeper Neilson Cole but William Beresford (six fours in his 35), Gary Phillips (32, including four boundaries) and Luke Brock (27) hauled Llangwm back into contention. But wickets started to fall to the slow stuff of Ryan Lewis and Simon Cole in a period where they only scored 35 runs in 19 overs,  and only Andrew Harries stayed long afterwards as he top scored with 54 (five fours and three sixes) before he got himself run out off the penultimate ball of the innings. Lewis finished with 3 for 24 alongside Stefan Jenkins (2 for 45), Cole (2 for 55) and James Venables (2 for 23).

Cresselly run-makers Andrew Harries (23) and Phil Williams (9) couldn’t make their usual impact but Simon Cole (30) joined Chandler in a productive stand and when Cole was removed by the combined efforts of Andrew and Richard Brock there was further leather-chasing for Llangwm as James Venables stepped up with 32 runs (three fours and a six).

Julian Arthur and Ryan Lewis also lost their wickets, Lewis to a splendid catch by Richard Brock as part of Andrew Harries’s 3 for 50 stint, but Chandler ended with five fours and four big sixes in his power-house knock in seeing Cresselly to victory.

Match 3 - Narberth versus Lawrenny

Narberth slam disappointing Lawrenny

Wayne Howells - top scored for NarberthNarberth (189 for 4) beat Lawrenny (109 all out)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Barry Wood

Scorers: Kath Adams & Malcolm Thomas

Narberth picked up maximum points as reward for an easy win over a Lawrenny side who seem to have lost their form and confidence after a promising start to the campaign, with Ben Quartermaine again the leading wicket-taker in a four-wicket spell that broke the back of the Lawrenny innings.

Narberth started off really well via skipper Richard Adams and Wayne Howells as they shared an opening stand of 86 before Adams was caught by James Phillips off Steve Lewis, with four fours and a six in his 40 runs.

Mark Hughes contributed 38 (five fours and a six) in a second wicket partnership of 60 with Howells, who was third out on 172 with 79 runs to his name, including eight boundaries. A final tally of 189 for 4 wickets saw James Buckle (2 for 69) and Steve Lewis (2 for 45) as the only Lawrenny wicket takers.

Lawrenny were soon deep in trouble as Ben Quartermaine struck hard, shifting the cream of the Lawrenny batting line-up in his 4 for 27 haul as only James Buckle managed double figures – and then younger brother Kyle stepped in with three quick wickets for only 30 runs. James Phillips (six fours and a six in his 36) and skipper Hugh Griffiths (20 not out) led something of a Lawrenny fight-back with a stand of 59 but then Matthew Johns joined the fray to claim Phillips’ wicket in a 3 for 7 stint that ensured Narberth sealed a comprehensive victory and a top-half place in the table.

Match 4 - Whitland versus Carew

Ian Sefton - 93 runs for CarewCarew power to easy win

Whitland (192 for 5) lost to Carew (193 for 2)

Umpires: Dave Loosmore & Dai Morris

Scorers: Janice Webb & Mike Scourfield

Carew again showed their batting power as they chased down Whitland’s big score of 192 for 5 with such ease that they only lost two wickets and took only 38 overs to reach their target.

Steve Fraser again showed what an asset he has become for Whitland as he led their batting offensive with four fours and four big sixes in his unbeaten 60 as Paul Davies (30), Ed John (eight fours in his 35) and Kevin Pearce (five boundaries in 36) provided the necessary support for Fraser’s keynote innings.

Ceri Brace, the teenage leg-spinner for Carew, grabbed 2 for 19 in six overs, ably assisted by another fine prospect in Rhys Davies (2 for 43) as Whitland finished up with 192 for 5 on a good batting track.

But Ian Sefton and Nick Scourfield gave chase with such effect that they shared a productive partnership of 125 before Sefton was out seven runs short of what would have been a superb century having rapped 12 fours and three sixes before he gave young Matthew Webb a deserved wicket from a good catch by Johnny Thomas. Scourfield contributed 56 (five fours) before he was out with the winning line in sight and Brian Hall bounced back to form with 32 not out before Tim Hicks finished things off with two boundaries.

Match 5 - Neyland versus Haverfordwest

Town win a nerve-tingler

Karl Rhead - more runs for HaverfordwestNeyland (177 for 7) lost to Haverfordwest (178 for 6)

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Trefor Evans

Scorers: John Laugharne & Jayne Cole

Haverfordwest retained top spot in the table as they secured a four wicket win at Neyland but not before they were pushed to the very limits by a home side eager for victory and looking in with a very good chance before an unbroken stand of 58 by Adam Raymond and Andrew Phillips eased The Town through.

They came together with the visitors a little shaky ion 120 for 6 but Raymond struck the ball hard in his 46 not out and Phillips used his vast experience over many years of cricket to support with a vital 21 not out.

Neyland had started with a bang as openers Scott John and Paul Murray contributed 75 before John departed for 29, with Murray top scoring on 55 (seven fours and a six), skipper Andrew Miller adding 23 and talented teenager Ashley Sutton chipping in with 44 not out (three fours and a six) as he and Patrick Hannon (12 not out) shared an unbroken eighth wicket partnership of 37. Josh Wilment (3 for 44) and Clive Tucker (3 for 37) were the successful Town bowlers as Neyland finished up on 177 for 7 wickets.

Patrick Hannon struck an early blow for Neyland after tea as he bowled Danny Potter for a duck but Richard James (37) joined Karl Rhead (68) in a stand of 64 before Neyland skipper Andrew Miller stepped in to remove James. Miller also dismissed Steve Phillips and Phil Kirkby and from 61 for 1 The Town collapsed to 76 for 4.

Rhead also fell to Miller on 119 to give the home captain a 4 for 48 haul and Adam James departed a single run later to Phil Davies – but then Raymond and Phillips got stuck in and The Town were relieved to leave the Athletic Ground with a good win.
