Bluebirds squander two home points

Haverfordwest County 1 - Newi Cefn Druids 1

Haverfordwest County dropped two valuable points at the Bridge Meadow Stadium as they dominated the first half but failed to turn pressure into points - and conceded a 92nd minute equaliser to send the Druids home happy with a point.

Haverfordwest made a solid start as Neil Thomas, Ryan Michael and Kevin Morgam sought to release the strike force of Jack Christopher and Nicky Woodrow but it was Thomas who opened the scoring for the Bluebirds as he latched onto a beuatifully-weighted through ball to slide his shot under the advancing Gerard McGuigan.

Haverfordwest had much the better of the half and Thomas had the chance to double their lead but this time McGuigan brought off a good save to keep the Druids in contention - whilst at the other end home keeper Lee Idzi had a relatively quiet time since Gareth Elliott marshalled his defence well and was supported by Craig Hanford, Bobby Briers and Terry Evans.

Druids had a couple of chances in the third quarter as Haverfordwest lost a little shape, with striker Mark Stewart and midfielder Lee Jones forcing good saves out from Idzi.

The warning signs were there but the Bluebirds held out until the dying seconds, when they allowed striker Kevin Holsgrove to fire in a shot from the edge of the box which squeezed in at the bottom corner of Idzi's net - and it was a case of two points lost for Derek Brazil's boys!

Haverfordwest County: Lee Idzi: Terry Evans; Gareth Elliott; Craig Hanford; Dyfan Pearce: Bobby Briers; Ryan Michael; Neil Thomas; Kevin Morgan: Nicky Woodrow; Jack Christopher. Subs: Luke Robinson; Mike Hartley; Dai Davies; Craig George.

Bluebirds pay the penalty

Carmarthen Town 3 - Haverfordwest County 0

Haverfordwest conceded two goals through penalties and a third from former striker NIcky Palmer with two minutes to go to complete a miserable evening for the Bluebirds at Richmond Park.

Scoring from the spot after 34 and 68 minutes was Craig Hughes, the Town striker from Llwynpia, in the Rhondda Valley, and Haverfordwest central defender Lee Jarman was given a yellow card for a tackle for the first and a straight red card for the latter as he was adjudged to use his arm to block a goal-bound shot.

There were also yellow cards for skipper Gareth Elliott and sub Craig George whilst the strike power of Jack Christopehr and Nicky Woodrow was negated by a sound defence for the homesters where 17 year old youth keeper Alex Evans kept a clean sheet.

Club chairman Rob Summons told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk, "We didn't play like we can and paid the price. We'll certainly need to sharpen up for Saturday's home match."

Haverfordwest County: Lee Idzi: Bobby Briers; Gareth Elliott; Lee Jarman; Terry Evans: Craig Hanford; Dylan Blain; Paul Michael; Kevin Morgan: Nick Woodrow; Jack Christopher. Subs: Luke Robinson (73 minutes); Craig George (73 minutes); Christian Speake.

Bluebirds gain fantastic point at TNS

The New Saints 0 - Haverfordwest County 0

The Bluebirds gained a fantastic point at Park Hall against The New Saints, who are currently third in the table. This hasn’t been a very happy hunting ground for the visitors for a number of seasons, but manager Derek Brazil was happy with the way his outfit fought hard for a goalless draw.

The visitors could have won this clash. Neil Thomas was unlucky not to score in the first half and in the second period Dylan Blain had an effort disallowed for offside.

This sweet result keeps the Bluebirds in sixth place in the league table, on the same number of points as Aberystwyth Town, but Brazil’s troops have better goal difference.

Haverfordwest County: Lee Idzi, Terry Evans, Bobby Briers, Craig Hanford, Lee Jarman, Luke Robinson, Kevin Morgan, Dylan Blain, Neil Thomas, Nick Woodrow, Paul Michael. Subs: Gareth Elliott, Christian Speake, Craig George.

Super strike for sub Woodrow

Haverfordwest County 3 - Welshpool 1

A superbly taken goal by substitute Nicky Woodrow helped Haverfordwest gain a deserved win over Welshpool in an entertaining match at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Woodrow received the ball from Neil Thomas after good work on the left by Dyfan Pearce and Kevin Morgan, beat his marker, committed Welshpool keeper Danny Jones and rounded him before sliding the ball home for a cool piece of finishing.

It gave the Bluebirds that vital bit of breathing space they needed and although visiting defender Tim Edwards went close with a late header it was the homesters who had the better of the final stages as sub Bobby Briers twice fired wide, Christopher put a shot over the bar and Kevin Morgan also had a good left-footed chance.

After a fairly even opening 20 minutes where Neil Thomas went close for the County, they grabbed two goals in a minute when Thomas capitalised on a defensive error and found the net at the second attempt – and then within 60 seconds bustled his way down the left to set up a chance for Christopher which gave the young striker his 17th goal of the season to join former player Tim Hicks on 41 goals as the team’s top striker in the Welsh Premier League. Kevin Morgan almost made it three goals in five minutes but his cracking left-foot volley rattled the upright with Jones beaten and was scrambled clear.

Welshpool deserve praise for sticking to the task and they pulled a goal back after 26 minutes when Andy Davies drilled a left foot cross-shot from outside the box which found the far corner of Lee Idzi’s net and restricted the Bluebirds to a 2-1 interval lead.

Woodrow served notice of intent when he came on as he beat Tim Edwards for pace and forced a good save from Jones with a ball fired in from the right – and then scored his goal to keep the home side on top – and they might have had a fourth as several chances went begging and a wicked deflection off Welshpool skipper Geraint Windsor hit the post and was cleared from the danger area.

Haverfordwest County: Lee Idzi: Terry Evans (Capt); Lee Jarman; Craig Hanford; Dyfan Pearce: Dylan Blain (Bobby Briers); Paul Michael (Luke Robinson); Mike Hartley (Nicky Woodrow); Kevin Morgan: Neil Thomas; Jack Christopher.

Bluebirds boosted by Thomas double strike

Airbus 2 - Haverfordwest County 4

Two goals by dynamic midfielder Neil Thomas helped Haverfordwest gain a thoroughly deserved away win against Airbus after they led 4-1 at the interval and were always comfortable after the interval to pickup three welcome points that will have pleased manager Derek Brazil and chairman Rob Summons.

Jack Christopher gave the Bluebirds the lead in the first minute and they doubled their advantage when Thomas struck first time after 20 minutes.

Airbus pulled a goal back from George Thomas six minutes later but Thomas was on target for the visitors just two minutes beyond that and Paul Michael made it 4-1 to the Bluebirds with a cracking goal.

The home side scored the only goal of the second period when Mark Allen beat Lee Idzi but there was no further scoring and Haverfordwest County made the long journey home with another good away win.

WELL DONE THE BRAZILIANS!

Haverfordwest County Team: Lee Idzi; Terry Evans; Dyfan Pearce; Lee Jarman; Craig Hanford; Paul Michael; Mike Hartley; Kevin Morgan; Neil Thomas; Jack Christopher; Dylan Blain. Substitutes: Nicky Woodrow; Bobby Briers; Luke Robinson.
