Rugby Preview : Fixtures for 21st February 2009

Division One (West):

Whitland v Dunvant
This is a ‘must-win’ match for Whitland against a side which has lost all 12 of its league matches and leaked a massive 70 tries and 477 points. The Borderers won by 56-3 in the second match of the season but have not been really on song of late.
Whitland to win with ease – and with a bonus point as an extra target.

Division Three (West):

Amman United v Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest beat Amman United by 25-13 at Merlins Bridge and after their superb win against runaway leaders Pontyberem should be full of confidence since Amman United have only won once from 13 starts and are favourites for relegation.
The Blues have targeted as an away win and they know that anything else would be a huge disappointment.

Cardigan v Llanybydder
Llanybydder won at home by 25-14 but on current form fourth-placed Cardigan should reverse that result against a side which had hopes of promotion but are now in sixth spot with only six wins from 13 games.
The Teifisiders are looking to win this tussle and I expect them to do just that!

Crymych v Laugharne
Crymych are playing really well and have games in hand over the two teams above them in the table, with opponents Laugharne in fifth place having won six and drawn once in 11 starts.
The Preseli Men won 12-5 in a real battle in Laugharne and hopefully they will complete the double here.

Division Four (West):

Llandeilo v Tenby United
Llandeilo are currently unbeaten and sit proudly atop the table and although Tenby are in second place they now have Brynamman breathing down their necks.
It should be a cracking match but the Seasiders will have to pull something special out of the hat to win this one!

Pembroke v Pembroke Dock Harlequins
The Quins beat Pembroke 3-0 just two weeks ago and hopefully this should be a better clash because there are some very good players in both camps.
I think the Quins might just edge home – but it could be very close again!

Division Five (West):

Fishguard and Goodwick v St Clears
Fishguard are sixth in the section whilst St Clears are just one place above them but not fulfilling their ambitions after a recruitment drive before the season, with the Seagulls having played two fewer matches.
It might be a hard tussle but Huw Evans and Co are up for it and should take the verdict.

Llangwm v Neyland
This is yet another local derby in Division Five (West) where the Wasps play host to the All Blacks. Llangwm have only won once and drawn once in 11 previous outings whilst Neyland have also under-achieved as they sit in seventh place with four wins and seven losses.
I predict the All Blacks will win, but without any real confidence since Llangwm have home advantage.

Milford Haven v Furnace
The Mariners are a cracking side brimming with confidence as they defend their unbeaten record against a fiery Furnace side that is in third spot.
Milford coach Alan McClelland will know this is a match his team must win – and I am confident they won’t let him down.

Pontyates v St Davids
The Saints are struggling to find any consistent form with just one win and a draw in ten games.
Pontyates have won three out of 11 fixtures and this is a match the Saints might just snatch – but I fear Pont will add to their win column as they are playing at home.
