All-rounder Rhys shows his talent

The new football season sees Rhys Dalling setting out in senior football with Clarbeston Road after being part of their highly successful under 16 team which swept all before them during the previous campaign.
Rhys played on the left side of midfield and scored 24 goals which helped Clarbie Juniors win not only the Pembrokeshire League and cup double for their age group but the West Wales Final as well.
All-round sportsman
He is very much an all-round sportsman because he has just finished another excellent season of cricket at Fishguard where his all-round ability with both bat and ball has seen him claim a regular place in the first team which has played well in Division Two of the Pembrokeshire League. He was also a member of the club’s junior team which reached the Ormond Youth Cup for the first time ever, playing against a Whitland team which was making its sixth appearance on the trot. He scored 57 in the quarter-final against St Ishmaels but missed the semi because he was on holiday – and was delighted to hear that Fishguard had reached the final.
He has been a member of the county set-up for the past three years, with Elaine Scale as coach, and has best bowling figures of 4 for 11 at junior level and a top batting of 73 not out against Carew Seconds in division two.
Crymych’s top No 10
Not content with that little lot, Rhys is also a very talented young fly half in rugby and was an integral part of the Crymych Under 16s team which lost only two matches all last season to win the junior league, completing another double as they fended off a strong challenge from their counterparts in Haverfordwest to win 6-0 at Narberth.
He plays under the watchful eye of Robin Davies, whose son Rhodri is Rhys’s half-back partner, and also represented the county under 15s and under 16s with Robin as his coach.
Football mad
Back on the football front, Rhys has been playing at Clarbie since he was 12 years old and built up a reputation with his ability to score goals and create chances for others, his work rate and tackling skills. He and his team mates won the Aberystwyth tournament and other competitions in Mid Wales to show their potential and after coming from a 2-0 deficit against Tenby won the Pembrokeshire under 16 cup. They staged an even bigger fight-back in the West Wales Final as they were losing 3-1 against Llangyfelach at Stebonheath Park and battled back to complete a superb treble with a 4-3 victory.
Family support
All of this sporting involvement has meant a great deal of travel and Rhys is quick to sing the praises of his parents, Shaun and Jane Dalling for their total support. His grandfather, John Roe, used to play cricket for Fishguard and Goodwick and has been a major influence in encouraging Rhys to take part in sport.
Rhys is now looking forward to the new challenge of senior football at Clarbeston Road and working with Huw Bevan as a good coach at the club. Pembrokeshire Sport is confident that he will continue to shine because he is ready to work hard and we wish this modest young fellow every success!
