Rugby Forecast and Forecasts for September 20th, 2008
. .click here for actual resuts . .Ten out of 11 matches forecast correctly last Saturday – only Neyland let me down of the local clubs. I could be on a roll so here’s this week’s predictions!
Division One (West):
Carmarthen v Narberth
Narberth have scored almost 100 points in securing two great wins but this is the Otters sternest test so far as they take on a Quins’ side which is also unbeaten. I fear that home advantage might swing it the Quins’ way – but I hope I’m wrong!
Whitland v Corus
Corus have lost both matches so far but the Steelmen are no mugs so Whitland need to play to their full potential if they are to build on last week’s cracking start. No doubts about this one – the Borderers will win well at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn.
Division Three (West):
Haverfordwest v Tumble
The Blues have only one point from two matches but have played better than that suggests so they should be too sharp for Tumble, who won last week but are not expected to feature at the top. A first win for the Blues if they continue to play well.
Lampeter v Cardigan
Cardigan travel to Lampeter with high hopes since the homesters have lost 18-17 against Llanybydder and 60-21 to Laugharne. They will be strong at home, however and Cardigan will have to play well – but will make it three wins in a row with a little to spare!
Llanybydder v Crymych
Both teams were promoted last campaign but Llanybydder have already lost both matches whilst Crymych were successful last week. Llanybydder will be eager for success in this tussle and I think they will be able to convert home advantage into victory – sadly!
Trimsaran v Pembroke Dock Harlequins
The Quins looked really good in beating Tycroes and will be buoyant after such a superb start, with Trim having won and lost already. There is a real confidence at Bierspool and this match will test that belief because in the past the Quins haven’t always travelled well. The Quins to win well, hopefully with a bonus point.
Division Four (West):
Brynamman v Tenby United
Brynamman have lost one of their two matches but are traditionally strong at home – although Tenby United are confident after two wins so far. The Seasiders have learnt to graft out wins and I think they can overcome this challenge if they play to their strengths.
Pembroke v Cwmgors
Two defeats in two matches isn’t the best start for Pembroke but Cwmgors have also lost both matches heavily, 33-3 to Tycroes and 36-3 at home to Trimsaran. The Scarlets will raise the tempo and their running game will easily account for Cwmgors.
Division Five (West):
Llangwm v St Davids
Local derbies between these sides are always tough and St Davids will be hoping to break their duck, repeating last season’s win at Pill Parks. Llangwm have injury problems but played well to beat Fishguard. Victory for the Wasps, who will be buzzing with home advantage, but it could be close!
Milford Haven v Neyland
Another local derby where no quarter will be asked for or given. Milford have started with two good wins but the All Blacks relish a visit from their old rivals. Victory for Alan McClelland’s outfit but I expect the All Blacks to try all they can to prove me wrong – again!
St Davids v Pontyates
St Davids have lost both games so far and are eager for success so they will be up for it against Pontyates. And should record a first victory of the campaign if they play well.
St Clears v Fishguard & Goodwick
St Clears have recruited from as far afield as Llanybydder; Haverfordwest and Laugharne so should be strong, whilst Fishguard were boosted by victory last week. The Saints should march in quite comfortable and down the Seagulls.
