Barry has to climb down over roof painting

Carew cricketer Barry EvansBarry Evans is best known as a left handed batsman with Carew CC and Evs is a great club man who is always ready to help the club in any way he can. So when the equipment storage shed needed its roof painting then he was the first to volunteer and when he finished his round as a postman one day drove over to the club to do a good job.

He recruited the assistance of fellow first teamer Ceri Brace, whose job was to hold the ladder so that Evs could safely climb onto the roof and he was soon busily painting away. It was only when he finished his work that he realised that he had painted away from the ladder and was standing in the wrong corner to get back to terra firma.
That’s one the trouble started because Ceri, who is a diminutive 15 year old, was unable to shift the heavy extension ladder and there was no-one else in sight! After a great deal of thought our Barry had a brainwave and sent Ceri across to nearby Kesteven Court and eventually someone came along to move the ladder so that he could dismount.

He had his leg pulled but as Barry pointed out he is a postman and not a painter, and at least he could say that he did a great job – other than for using a bit of common sense at the start!

Kids cause Adam hand problems

Adam Raymond was unable to complete the season at Haverfordwest Cricket Club because he suffered nastily bruised fingers – but not playing the game as a big-hitting batsmen and slow bowler.

Adam also plays as a solid mid-field player at Haverfordwest County but he also coaches the youngsters at Camrose AFC and that is where his accident occurred. His young charges were playing a practice match with the portable goal-posts that can be taken in after games. The kids were enjoying themselves when Adam noticed that one was a little insecure and he bent down to adjust it – just at the moment that the young keeper made a great diving save and held onto the crossbar as he tipped the ball over. It nicely wedged Adam’s fingers between the post and the ground and he did well not to utter a stream of swear words to help lessen the pain!
But he did have to have his sore digits taped up and hence his inability to complete the cricket season – but at least he can now focus properly on gaining a regular place with Haverfordwest County!

Coffee capers

It seems that no-one is safe from making the odd faux pas on or off the playing fields of Pembrokeshire and yours truly has to admit to being caught out at home recently. After a hard few hours at the typewriter a cup of coffee was called for and the kettle was soon boiled and the granules and milk placed in the cup. It was only when all the ingredients were mixed and stirred that the problems began.

The ‘coffee’ looked decidedly weak and instead of the rich coffee aroma there was a smell of a roast beef dinner throughout the kitchen and it was then that the delighted better half was able to point out that I had used gravy granules instead of coffee.
It is always hard to be wrong but even more so when your partner is beside herself with mirth and unable to speak because she was shaking with laughter. But there is a silver lining to every cloud because pretty soon afterwards I had a lovely milky coffee steaming in a large mug, made by she who never makes a mistake!
